BHEL ET Recruitment 2013 through GATE 2013BHEL Recruitment Notification 2013 for 500 Engineer Trainees (ET) came out just today and just like seven other PSU organisations (BPCL, HPCLPower GridNTPC & DDA, DDA, MECL), ET recruitment by BHEL in 2013 is also going to be done through GATE 2013 scores. Two other major Public Sector Undertakings (PSU): IOCL & BEL are also issuing the recruitment notification for their requirement of Graduate Engineers very soon through GATE 2013. So for finding a job in government sector industries these days, GATE has truly become the GATE-WAY.

I am continuously updating the list of PSU recruiting through GATE,  in my blog article titled: Jobs through GATE 2013 List of PSU Organisation recruiting with every announcement/ job notification by the PSUs. So you can keep a tab on the emerging job opportunities in PSUs in 2013 by vising that article.

What are the eligibility and how to apply for these engineer trainee positions in BHEL? This is the subject matter of current blog article by quoting the relevant information from the above notification. Towards the end of the article, you would find the prep materials for BHEL ET  Recruitment 2013: GATE 2013 prep materials for EE, ME & EC paper as well as GD/Interview prep materials for BHEL.

But before we go further, a small introduction on BHEL.

What is BHEL:
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), established in 1953, is the largest engineering and manufacturing enterprise in India in the energy-related/infrastructure sector and is also one of leading power generation equipment manufacturers in the world. The company has been earning profits continuously since 1971-72 and is paying dividends since 1976-77.
BHEL manufactures over 180 products under 30 major product groups and caters to core sectors of the Indian Economy viz., Power Generation & Transmission, Industry, Transportation, Telecommunication, Renewable Energy, etc. The wide network of BHEL consists of 14 manufacturing divisions, four Power Sector regional centres, over 100 project sites, eight service centres and 18 regional offices.
BHEL is on a rapid expansion mode - it plans to become a Rs. 45,000 crore company by 2011-12 and double that amount by 2016-17.
More about BHEL can be found from this BHEL site.

BHEL ET Recruitment process:
From 2012 onwards, there has been a major change in how BHEL is recruiting Engineer Trainees (ET) - till 2011, BHEL used to conduct its own Written recruitment test which was of 2 hour duration having two papers: Aptitude & Technical. The selection process for ET was hence: Written Test -> GD/Interview.

But from 2012 onwards, BHEL is not conducting the written test itself - it has used the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) scores to shortlist the candidates for its further selection process. The changed selection process form now onwards would be GATE-> GD/Interview.

Hence for the ET positions in BHEL from now onwards, you have to appear in GATE relevant to your discipline and do well in the same, so that you can be shorlisted by BHEL for GD & Interview.

GATE 2013 scores of applicants would be used to shortlist the candidates for Interview. Almost 1500 candidates are expected to be shortlisted as the ratio used by BHEL is 1:3 for each category/discipline. In the final merit list 75% weightage would be given to GATE 2013 score and 25% for Interview.
