NIIT has brought out the notification for National IT Aptitude Test (NITAT 2013) and submission of form has began from 2nd February,2013. ...
A few of my blog readers asked me to write on NITAT - how to apply and prepare for it. That is why this article is being written to help you apply for NITAT 2013 with the information on Eligibility & Forms. In another blog article titled: NITAT exam Pattern, Papers & Books I would provide you the prep materials for this exam.
Let me start with a synopsis on NITAT.
What is NITAT:
National IT Aptitude Test (NITAT) is a benchmark test being conducted by NIIT to test the competence of aspirants for an IT career. But hold on! Although this test is designed to test the competence for an IT career, it does not tests your competency in any IT skill - you do not need to have any IT/Computer Science qualifications to appear for NITAT. In fact, you can appear NITAT even after passing Class-XII and hence can be from any background.
What NITAT tests are two abilities:
1.0 Functional abilities: Which comprises of questions from Numerical Ability, Logical Reasoning, Problem Solving and Verbal Ability (including English Comprehension).
2.0 Behaviourial traits: Traits assessed are Result Orientation and Teamwork.
NITAT by NIIT somewhat remotely resembles NAC (NASSCOM Assessment Of Competence) which was launched by NASSCOM to find candidates eligibility for a BPO career. Both are benchmarking test. But appearing and qualifying in them does not guarantee you jobs - you have to still appear in the selection process of individual recruiting companies.
NITAT 2013 is the 9th NITAT being conducted by NIIT - the 1st ever was launched on 19th September, 2004. As per NIIT, close to 5 lakhs (to be precise: 4,91,400) have appeared in NITAT so far.
How good is NITAT? Why Should you appear in NITAT?
These are the next two questions that must be hovering on your mind as you are reading this article. Let us do a quick Cost-Benefit analysis.
As per NIIT, following are the benefits of taking NIIT:
1.0 IT Aptitude Assessment Scorecard.
2.0 IT aptitude rank at a national, zonal and discipline level.
3.0 Personalized IT career consultation.
4.0 Invitation to the NIIT Job Fair and Tech Seminar.
5.0 Technology scholarships on NIIT programmes
Special Benefits for Meritorious Students
National Top 1000 students - Congratulatory letter signed by Viswanathan Anand.
National Top 30% students - Merit Certificate from NIIT.
Than, What is the Cost of appearing in NITAT?
NITAT exam fee is very nominal - only Rs. 100/=.
So as you can see above, as the cost is extremely low, benefit outweighs the cost. Out of the benefits being mentioned by NIIT above, what I see most attractive is "4.0 Invitation to the NIIT Job Fair and Tech Seminar". You can use these job fair as the gateway to an IT career.
NIIT Job fairs:
Subsequent to appearing in NIIT NITAT, you can participate in the job fairs and if you can show there your potentials you can get a job. You can click the Facebook link given below to know about the NIIT Job fairs:
NIIT Job Fair at Delhi on 18th December, 2012: 174 students were selected.
NIIT Job Fair at Pune on 23rd Jan, 2013: 23 students were selected & 151 shortlisted.
Which are the companies which recruits through NIIT job fairs? Some of the companies are listed below:
Tech Mahindra, Manpower, Support Mart, Smartsteps, Shopclues, Beacon Services, Saasforce, Kyrion, Genpact, Royal bank of Scotland, Adecco, Medsave, GSCPL, Hays Business Solutions, NIIT LSE, Salient, Aegis, CSC, Muthoot Fincorp, Horizon Consulting,HDFC, EXL,
But not everyone who participates in NIIT job fairs gets a job, as you can see in the comments by following two gentlemen:

NITAT Eligibility:
You can appear in NITAT just after passing Class-XII. But however since no IT company is going to recruit with Class-XII pass as an eligibility, you should take NITAT after passing your graduation in any discipline - BA, B. Sc., B. Com, Polytechnic, Engineering, Medical etc.
As you can see in the screenshot of the application form in the right, there are two tabs of the NITAT 2013 Online form: General & Education. The application process is fairly simple.
Post-submission of the form, make the payment and then select the venue. Once the venue selection is done, please click on the "Print hall ticket" to print-out your hall-ticket for NITAT 2013.
NITAT 2014 Exam/Form Date:
May be you would like to appear in next years NITAT. So when is NITAT 2014 going to be held? When the form for NITAT 2014 would be available? I did an exam-date trend analysis and got results as below:

As you can see above, NITAT exam is being held in 3rd/4th Sunday of February month each year. So NITAT 2014 exam date should be 16th February and 15th February should be the last date of form submission for NITAT 2014. Nearer these dates (i.e. from the last week of January 2014, keep checking this NIIT NITAT webpage to know the exact dates.
So that is it! Through above article I have tried to summarize information (scattered in many NIIT webpage & Facebook) to help you apply for NITAT 2013. Hope I did some justice.. please put your comments below, which would help future NITAT aspirants to do better.
