AFMC MBBS Entrance Exam 2011 for the academic session 2011-2012 has just been concluded on 1st May, 2011 and many of my young blog readers mailed me asking for the date of exam notification for AFMC Exam 2012, to know when the exam would be held.
There are two sections of these readers – some had appeared in this year but could not do so well and hence wants to appear again in next year. While there are a few others who would appear in AFMC Exam 2012 for the first time. This blog post is dedicated to them – to help them make their preparation plans with the scheduled AFMC Exam 2012 date. Another blog post of mine titled: AFMC Entrance Exam Pattern, Sample Papers, Books and Coaching Institute would give them the prep materials for this exam.
But first of all let us know about AFMC in brief.
What is AFMC?
The Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) is consistently being ranked within top 3 medical colleges in India for a long time now. In the last ranking of topmost medical colleges in India by Outlook, it has been ranked 2nd, only next to the elite AIIMS.
AFMC was founded on 1st May, 1948 and the "Graduate Wing" started on 4th August 1962. AFMC serves the Indian armed forces by providing the entire pool of medical specialists and super specialists. Over 6000 doctors have graduated from AFMC until now. It is presently affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences.
Once if you land up in AFMC, everything is free – which includes not only free hostel accommodation as well as other academic costs but also even AC 3 Tier railway ticket for journey during vacation from college to home and back.
But every free thing has a price – is not it? If you study in AFMC, you have to serve the armed forces for a minimum period of 7 years. You have to sign a bond for it for an amount of Rs.15 lakhs at the time of joining the college.
And again, as it is one of the topmost medical colleges in India and with only 130 seats (105 boys & 25 girls – with 10 seats reserved for SC/ST) per year, the AFMC Entrance exam is one of the tough most entrance exam to crack! Sounds Interesting?
