ONGC has this year come out with its maiden attempt for recruiting 745 Graduate Trainees (GT) through GATE-2015, from Engineering and Geo-Sciences disciplines. It might have taken the cue from other blue-chip PSU companies who have been recruiting through GATE for last 5 years. Till this year, ONGC was conducting its own written exam for recruitment of GT, instead of using the GATE scores which were being used by other companies like IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, NTPC etc.

As you might know already, to get these jobs, you do not have to appear in any other written exam other than GATE 2015. How is the selection process made than?
Selection Process for ONGC GT Recruitment through GATE 2015:
Most of the PSUs who are recruiting through GATE is setting only two criteria’s: GATE-2015 Score and GD/ Interview. However, besides above, ONGC is also giving weigtage to your graduation degree marks and also higher qualifications.
Weigtage of marks for GT selection merit list in ONGC is as follows:
GATE-2015 Score: 60 marks.
Interview: 15 marks.
Qualification: 25 marks. (20: Essential & 05: Additional in-line higher qualification)
What are the Eligibility required?
Age Eligibility: (as on 01.01.2015)
For Drilling & Cementing: Max. 28 years (For OBC: 31 YEARS & SC/ST: 33 years).
For all Others: Max. 30 years (For OBC: 33 YEARS & SC/ST: 35 years).
For PWD: Gen: Max. 40 years (For OBC: 43 YEARS & SC/ST: 45 years).
Educational Qualification Eligibility:
Min. 60% in Graduation Engineering/Science in relevant disciplines.
For Programming Officer: Pass in ‘B' level diploma as defined by Dept. of Electronics and GOI.
Final year students can also apply provided you can provide the proof of obtaining the required qualification latest on the date of interview (May 2015 approx).
Qualifying disciplines for ONGC GT Recruitment 2015:
What disciplines you must have studied to be eligible to appear in ONGC GT Recruitment 2015?
You can find it in this list of Qualifying disciplines.
For example for qualifying discipline "Graduate Degree in Applied Petroleum Engineering" you must have any of the following qualifications:
B Sc Engg. (Applied Petroleum)
B.E. (Applied Petroleum)
B.Tech (Applied Petroleum).
GATE-2015 papers for ONGC GT Recruitment 2015:
But what GATE 2015 paper you must appear, corresponding to your qualification, for ONGC GT Recruitment 2015?
You can find the list of GATE-2015 papers for your disciplines in page-2 "Eligibility Criteria" in the notification.
For example for above qualifying discipline "Graduate Degree in Petroleum Engineering", you can appear in any one of the GATE 2015 subjects given below:
Mechanical Engineering (ME) OR Engineering Sciences (XE) OR Chemical Engineering (CH).
ONGC GT Salary:
Salary offered by ONGC to Graduate Trainees (GT) is in Pay-Scale of Rs. 24,900 - 50,500/= with other benefits.
With this, Gross salary for ONGC GT per month is approx. Rs. 90,000/= as can be seen in the salary-head break-up in the table at right.
This is just an approx. figure and the amount depends on the location and the department in which GT are posted.

Last date of Submission of form for GATE 2015: 14th October, 2014.
GATE 2015 Online Exam: 31st January, 1st, 7th, 8th and 14th February, 2015
Date of GATE 2015 Results: 12th March 2015 (17:00 Hrs)
Date for submission of ONGC GT Online form: January, 2015.
Date of ONGC GT Interview 2015: May, 2015.
