IBPS Common Written Exam (CWE) for Specialist Officers 2015 is scheduled to be held on 14th/15th February, 2015 and many of you may be searching for the prep materials for this exam. It is for this reason that this blog post is being made - through the content below, I am discussing at length about the exam pattern/format of IBPS CWE for Specialist Officers. In the very outset, let me tell you that IBPS CWE for Specialist Officers is not very different from IBPS CWE for PO (Probationary Officers), as you can see in my article titled: IBPS CWE PO Exam Pattern, Papers & Books: Prep Materials, except that in CWE for Specialist Officers, a major chunk of mark is for "Professional Knowledge" test section, which weighs about 37.5% for the total marks of the Common Written Exam. Towards the end, you would be finding a comparative analysis of these two exams.
Without vacillating away from the main topic, let us find what is the pattern of exam for IBPS CWE Specialist Officers.
IBPS CWE Specialist Officers Exam Pattern/Syllabus:
IBPS CWE Exam Pattern for Law Officer & Rajbhasha Adhikari
is as given at right. It has 200 questions of 200 marks to be answered in 2 hours.
There are four test sections:
1.0 Reasoning.
2.0 English Language.
3.0 General Awareness with special reference to Banking Industry.
4.0 Professional Knowledge.
IBPS CWE Exam Pattern for rest of the Specialist Officers
(i.e. IT Officer, Agriculture Field Officer, HR/ Personnel Officer, Marketing Officer, Chartered Accountants & Manager Credit / Finance Executive) is on the other hand given at left.
It has again 200 questions of 200 marks to be answered in 2 hours.
The four test sections are:
1.0 Reasoning.
2.0 English Language.
3.0 Quantitative Aptitude.
4.0 Professional Knowledge.
There is a minor difference between the IBPS CWE Exam Pattern for Law Officer & Rajbhasha Adhikari compared to other officers - while for for Law Officer & Rajbhasha Adhikari the third paper is "General Awareness with special reference to Banking Industry", for others the third paper is "Quantitative Aptitude".
The noteworthy point while analyzing this exam pattern is:
1.0 There is least mark for English Language : only 25 marks (i.e. 1/2 mark per question)
2.0 Highest mark is for Professional Knowledge: 75 marks ((i.e. 1.5 mark per question)
So from above, you can decide where to put more emphasis.
There is not set syllabus for IBPS CWE Specialist Officers, as can be expected for any competitive exam. So base your preparation on the basis of previous years exam papers.
IBPS CWE Exam Pattern Specialist Officers Vis-A-Vis PO:
As I said in the beginning of the article, there are at least three test sections which is similar between CWE for PO & CWE for Specialist Officers as you can find in the following table:
Thus if you are appearing for Specialist Officers - Law Officer & Rajbhasha Adhikari, the three test section similar to PO exam are: Reasoning, English Language & General Awareness with special reference to Banking Industry. On the other hand if you are appearing IBPS CWE for other Specialist Officers, the three test section similar to PO exam are: Reasoning, English Language & Quantitative Aptitude.
Why I am giving the above comparison? Just to tell you that you can use the Sample Papers/Prep Books for these similar test section of IBPS CWE for PO to prepare for IBPS CWE for Specialist Officers!
Negative marking in IBPS CWE Specialist Officers:
Please bear in mind that there is negative marking in IBPS CWE Specialist Officers Exam - 1/4th of the mark for that question. For instance a wrong answer in Professional Knowledge test section would cost you 0.375 mark while that for a English Language would cost you 0.125 mark.
So make your guess answers wisely!
IBPS CWE Specialist Officers Exam Cut-Off mark:
You have to score a minimum mark in each test as well as in aggregate to be considered to be called for interview. This cut-off mark would be decided by IBPS based on the relative performance of all the candidates (i.e. only after the exam is over).
Marks allotted for IBPS Interview is 100. Here also you have to score minimum 40% (35% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates).
