Indian Navy Recruitment Notification 2013 for Pilot & Observer in SSC (Short Service Commission) for June 2014 batch has come out recently. This is a very good opportunity for those of you unmarried graduates between 19 to 24 years to join the Indian naval service. Why? because you can go for a career in defence for a short period (10 years in Short Service Commission), retire as an ex-navy officer at a young age (say 30 years), draw pensions for the naval service and than join civilian jobs. Wonderful is not it?

First let us start this by knowing what are the job roles of a Pilot & Observer in Indian Navy.
Indian Navy Pilot & Observer Job roles:
Job Roles of Indian Navy Pilot Officer:
Pilot Officer works in the flying wing of Indian Navy - while most Navy pilots fly ship-borne helicopters and shore based maritime reconnaissance aircraft, some elite pilots also fly fighter aircraft such as Sea Harrier or Mig 29K.
Job Roles of Indian Navy Observer Officer:
Observer officer are the eyes of Indian Navy - they operates various state of the art equipment including sonics, sonars, radars and communication equipment. They participates in all facets of naval operations onboard the maritime Patrol aircraft.
Post selection, both Pilot & Observer officers joins the Naval Orientation Course at the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala. After this, the Pilots undergo flying training at the Air Force Academy/Naval establishments while Observer officers undergo professional training at various Naval Training Establishments/Units/Ships.
Both Pilot & Observer officer positions in Indian Navy are inducted as a Sub-Lieutenant.
Salary of a Sub-Lieutenant (i.e. Pilot/Observer) in Indian Navy:
On being selected in this Pilot/Observer recruitment, you will be inducted as a Sub Lieutenant and offered pay-scale of PB-3/15600-39100 with grade pay: Rs. 5400. With this pay-scale, the CTC is approx. Rs. 83,500/- per month which includes Basic Pay, DA, Grade Pay, Military Service Pay, House Rent Allowance and Transport allowance.
Eligibility for Pilot/Observer recruitment in Indian Navy:
Age Eligibility:
Min. 19, Max: 24 years (i.e. DOB between 2nd July, 1990 to 1st July 1995, both dates inclusive)
For candidates with CPL (Commercial Pilot License) - (DOB between 2nd July, 1989 to 1st July 1995)
Educational Qualifications Eligibility:
Minimum 60% in graduation (any discipline) with Maths& Physics in Class-XII.
You need to posses these qualifications - so final year students awaiting their results are not eligible.
Gender Eligibility:
For Indian Navy Pilots, only Male candidate can apply. For Observer positions, both male/female can apply. You also needs to be unmarried.
Minimum physical standards for Indian Navy Pilot/Observer officer recruitment:
In addition to above age & educational qualifications, you must also meet following physical standards:
1.0 You should not be colour/night blind
2.0 Height and Weight. Minimum height for men 162.5 cms and for women 152 cms with correlated weight, leg length, sitting height and thigh length.
3.0 Eye Sight. minimum acceptable vision standard for distant vision 6/6, 6/9 correctable to 6/6, 6/6.
Selection process for Indian Navy Pilot/Observer recruitment 2013:
Based on the applications submitted, Indian Navy shortlists the candidates and than candidates are called for SSB interview, to be held at Bangalore in between December to June 2014. Subsequent to SSB, you have to undergo following qualifying tests:
i) For Pilot - PABT (Pilot Aptitude Battery Tests) followed by Aviation Medical examination.
(ii) For Observer - Aviation Medical examination
