What is IBPS CWE (Common Written Exam)? This blog article introduces you to IBPS CWE along with interresting previous exam statistics..
IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) has already started the recruitment campaign for the year 2015-2016. While I am writing specific articles for the particular version of the Common Written Exam (CWE), this article is being written to introduce you to IBPS CWE, so that you can have a birds eye view about the exam.
Introduction to IBPS CWE:
IBPS is the acronym for Institute of Banking Personnel Selection, which is the the apex body for recruitment, promotion and placement services in Indian public sector undertaking (PSU) banks. Founded in 1975 as a unit of National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM), it became an autonomous body in 1984. To know more about IBPS, visit this About Us page.
Prior to 2011, each Indian banks was conducting individual written exams for recruitment of PO & MT. These proved to be expensive affair for each bank both monetarily as well as for time. Therefore IBPS was entrusted with the job for organizing a Common Written Exam (CWE). Score of this CWE was used by the Indian PSU banks to shortlist the candidate for further selection process (i.e GD/Interview etc.).
Recruitment process through IBPS CWE:
You can below a comparison of recruitment process in Indian PSU banks before IBPS CWE was held and after IBPS CWE came in the illustration below:
Bank Selection process before IBPS CWE came:
Bank Selection process after IBPS CWE:
As you can find above, after the CWE is held by IBPS, the result is declared and candidates are shortlisted for IBPS Common Interview. After the Interview, based on combined scores of CWE + Interview, merit list is prepared.
IBPS than provides you the list of vacancy for each bank and you are now asked to give your preference for banks (i.e. in which you would like to work for). Based on the vacancy available and your preference for banks, IBPS provides you the offer letter.
Four versions of IBPS CWE:
As of now, there are four versions of Common Written Exam (CWE) of IBPS, conducted for specific recruitment targets:
1.0 IBPS CWE PO/MT: For selection of Probationary Officers (PO) & Management Trainees (MT).
