This blog article is being written to let you know of KVPY 2013 Notification, so that those of you who had missed out to apply for KVPY 2012 (last date for form submission expired on 7th September, 2012) know the scheduled dates for next year i.e. KVPY 2013 Notification, Form submission & Exam dates.
Focus of this blog article is on telling you when KVPY 2013 Notification is going to come out, date for availability and submission of KVPY 2013 application forms and what eligibility you need to have to apply for KVPY scholarship/fellowship. In a subsequent blog article titled: KVPY 2013 Syllabus, Papers, Books and Exam pattern I would provide you the prep materials for the exam.
Before that, first find if you are eligible to apply for KVPY.
KVPY 2013 Stream-wise Eligibility:
KVPY is held for following three levels. Eligibility
1.0 For Class XI students: Stream SA.
2.0 For Class XII students: Stream SX.
3.0 For 1st year Students of B. Sc. /B.S. / Integrated M.Sc. /M.S: Stream SB.
There was another stream called “Stream SP” (Basic Sciences including Engineering/Medicine) in previous KVPY exams, but same has been withdrawn from 2012 KVPY Fellowship award.
Eligibility for the three streams of KVPY is:
Eligibility Stream SA:
i) You must be a Class XI student studying Science Subjects during the academic year 2013-14.
ii) You must have scored minimum 80% (70% for SC/ST) aggregate marks in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in Class X Board Exam.
Eligibility Stream SX:
i) You must be a Class XII student studying Science Subjects during the academic year 2013-14 and aspiring to join an undergraduate program in Basic Sciences (i.e. B.Sc./B.S./Integrate M.Sc./M.S.) after passing Class-XII i.e. in the session 2014–15.
ii) You must have scored minimum 80% (70% for SC/ST) aggregate marks in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in Class X Board Exam.
Eligibility Stream SB:
i) You must be a 1st year B. Sc./B.S./Integrated M.Sc./M.S student during the academic year 2013-14.
ii) You must have scored minimum 60% (50% for SC/ST) aggregate marks in SCIENCE subjects in Class XII Board Exam.
So, if you are eligible to apply for KVPY, you naturally would like to know when KVPY 2013 notification is going to come out.
KVPY 2013 Notification:
Notification for KVPY comes out twice a year - on 11th May (the Technology Day) and 2nd Sunday of July. Therefore KVPY 2013 Notification should come out on 11.05.2013 (Saturday) and 14.07.2013 (Sunday). Watch out for the notification in major national dailies. Also check

KVPY Form Submission Process: How to apply for KVPY
There are two ways to apply for KVPY exam: through Offline Form & through Online Form.
1.0 Through Offline application Form:
You can obtain the offline KVPY application form through two modes:
i) By Post.
ii) By hand from IISc.
For obtaining the form by post, first pay the KVPY application fee (Rs. 200/= in KVPY 2012 through any SBI core banking branch to the credit of “Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) A/c. No. 10270577392”. KVPY fee is waived for SC/ST/PWD/Girl candidates.
Than send a request letter, enclosing the paid “Bank Challan/ Pay-in-slip”, clearly indicating the stream SA/SX/SB on the envelope to the following address:

2.0 Through Online application Form.
Watch out for the KVPY 2013 Online application Form in
this webpage after the notification comes out. After submission of the online form, take printout of the submitted form.
You have to send completed application form (both Offline & Online) along with the following documents, super scribing on the envelope the scheme applied for to the address given above:
1.0 For SC/ST candidates: Caste certificate issued by a competent authority.
2.0 For physically/visually challenged students: Medical certificate from the prescribed authority
3.0 The original Pay-in-slip of Rs. 200/- if applicable.
4.0 Copy of the marks statement of the qualifying examination(s).
KVPY 2013 Form Submission & Exam dates:
To find out the dates for KVPY 2013 exam and form submission, I analyzed the dates for last four KVPY exams and the date trend analysis is given in the table at right.
KVPY notification is issued every year on 11th May (the Technology Day) and 2nd Sunday of July. Accordingly therefore, KVPY 2013 exam notification should come out on 11th May, 2013 and 14th July, 2013. Similarly, KVPY exam is held either on the last Sunday of October or 1st Sunday of November. Accordingly therefore KVPY 2013 exam should be held on 3rd November, 2013 or 27th October, 2013.
Therefore following dates of form availability & submission for KVPY 2013 exam is forecasted:
Offline Forms By post: 2/9/2013
Offline Forms from IISc: 9/9/2013
Online Form Submission: 9/9/2013
Receipt of completed form: 12/9/2013
Date of KVPY Exam: 3/11/2013 or 27/10/2013.
