ONGC GT Exam Pattern, Sample Papers & Books

 This blog post follows my earlier blog article titled: ONGC GT Recruitment-2012 Notification, Eligibility & Forms, which helps you to download the notification as well as how to apply for the same. The focus of this post is on how to prepare for the ONGC Graduate Trainee (GT) Exam. It at first gives you the pattern of ONGC GT written test and than the sources of sample papers & books for its preparation.
ONGC GT Exam Pattern:
In its recruitment notification, ONGC has not elaborated much on what would be the pattern of the ONGC GT Exam 2012 other than just specifying that:
1.0 The exam paper would be of Objective type (i.e. Multiple Choice Questions).
2.0 The exam paper would consist of three sections:
i) General Awareness test section– common to all.
ii) Specialization subject test section – specific to your subject.
iii) Aptitude test section– common to all, containing question from following areas:
a) Comprehension.
b) Reasoning (Verbal/Non-verbal).
c) Numerical Ability/Quantitative Aptitude.
d) Data Interpretation.
3.0 Duration for ONGC GT Exam 2012 is 3 hours.
Other than above, the recruitment notification does not say anything about how many questions are likely to be asked in each paper and what would be the mark distribution.
So based on the exam experiences of candidates who had appeared in the previous years ONGC GT exam, I found pattern of ONGC GT exam as given in the table at right. This may vary with the question/marks in the actual exam you are going to face; nevertheless, this test pattern gives you a direction to prepare:
There is a change in the pattern of ONGC GT Exam from this year onwards, in ONGC GT Exam 2012, Aptitude test section has been included. Previously, there were only two sections: General Awareness & Subject Specialization.
ONGC GT Exam Sample Papers:
What type of questions are asked in this test? Some sample questions of ONGC written test is definitely going to help you in sizing up the test. I had tried to find those online sample papers for the ONGC written exam and I could find the following sample question papers:

This is a good source where you can find sample paper/exam experience for four previous ONGC written exams.
But above ONGC sample papers only gives you some insights on what type of questions may be asked. For serious study for the Specialization subject paper, as you can find from the feedback of ex-candidates of ONGC exam, you have to go back to your college days.
ONGC GT Exam Prep Books:
Once you clear the written test, you would be called for the Psychometric Test. What is it? Kindly read my previous blog post titled: Psychometric Test for Jobs. It not only tells you what is a Psychometric Test, but also tells you how to answer the same.
ONGC Interview questions:
You can begin your interview preparation for ONGC Interview by reading the warming-up questions about yourself, my previous blog post: Interview for Jobs would definitely help you – it has 99 most asked questions as well as an interesting you-tube video.

everything is bakwas. the pattern of ongc gt is change every year. so,you can't guess it. you know when the ongc will send u the admit card. like in 2008,there was 75 question in general studies, but in 2009 it was only 40. Although, the question level doesn't change. more or less it will be same means 50% from current affair and rest will be from general studies(history, policy, geography......). so, don't worry, prepare in concise and in wright direction.

I have just received the interview call letter for ONGC GT 2009 but I am in the final year of my MBA degree, my final result will be declared in may 2010,I submitted my application on the last day so could not go through the adv. properly.
Can anybody help me out regarding the same///WOULD THEY ALLOW ME TO APPEAR IN INTERVIEW? or can i request ONGC about the same,,,any chance to harvest this opportunity ??? any suggestion is awaited.....

Page 3 of the ONGC recruitment notification says following:
Final year/ semester students who expect their results on or
before the interviews, likely to be held in November/
December’09, may also apply for the posts.
According to it, you are eligible only if your result is declared before the interview.
You can however visit the ONGC website and find out HR contacts.
