Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), the premier engineering and manufacturing PSU in India, recruits executives/staffs from time to time, both in technical as well as in non-technical areas, such as for HR, Finance etc. Many of my blog readers asked me to tell them how they should prepare for BHEL Interview (I mean Personal Interview).
The focus of this blog post is therefore to tell you that: How to prepare for BHEL Interview with some sample interview questions. This blog post has also been necessitated because of recent BHEL notification for Executives & Supervisors positions in IT, Civil & Tech. Services disciplines with work experience, as the selection is based on Interview alone! You can find more about this BHEL notification in my previous post: “BHEL ET Recruitment 2011-2012 Notification, Eligibility & Forms”.
Also, although this post is titled “BHEL Jobs: Interview Questions”, you may find the content useful for preparation for any other job interviews.
At first, let me tell you that an Interview is conducted by the Interviewer so as to fill their need of the right employee – so when you are called for an interview, Interviewer is not doing you exactly a favour – just as you need the job, they also needs you, provided you can satisfy their requirement.
If you are appearing for a first time interview, than get the basics of an interview process by going through this previous blog post of mine: Interview for Jobs. It tells you in general, what are the things an interviewer looks for in you..
With above basics of an interview, let us try to understand from which angles questions can be asked to you. All the questions that are asked to you in the interview emanates from following three areas:
1.0 What are you?
2.0 How much you know about us? Why do you want to join us?
3.0 Why do you think you have the capability to join us?
As I said earlier, these question area are not restricted to BHEL interview question alone, but for any kind of job interviews.
How and where do you find the type of questions on these three areas and how to prepare for them? Well, I can only point you to the sources where you can find information on them, but rest is your headache: You need to prepare yourself by organizing mock-interviews…
Interview Questions on “What are you?” area:
These are the questions which are asked at the very beginning of an interview, mainly to put an interviewee at ease. But sometimes a simple question like “What are your strong points?” can be very tough to answer, if you do not prepare for the question, since there would be follow-up question on these type of questions.
Some sample questions on “What are you?” area are as follows:
1).Tell us about yourself.
2).How would you describe your personality?
3).What are your strong points?
4).What are your weak points?
5).How did you do in school?
6).What experience do you have?
7).According to your definition of success, how successful have you been so far?
8).What are your most significant accomplishments in your life so far?
9).Would you describe a few situations in which your work was criticized?
10).What do you look for in a job?
You can find 99 more such questions on my previous blog post “Interview for Jobs”.
Interview Questions on “How much you know about us? Why do you want to join us?” area:
These are the questions asked to you to find how much proactive you are – how much information you have about a family (the organisation) which you want to be part of. If you do not have these information, your answers to these questions would mean that you want a job desperately and that is why you are sitting before them!
You can find information about an organisation from the “About us” page of the organizations website. In that page, you can find more about BHEL from the following link options as shown below:
Another great source where you can find about an organisation is Wikipedia. For example, to find about BHEL in Wikipedia, just search “wiki BHEL” in Google as shown below:
Once if you know about the organisation, you will be at ease to answer why you want to join the organisation, by linking your strengths/interests/experiences to the services provided by the orgainsation.
Interview Questions on “Why do you think you have the capability to join us?” area:
These are the questions which are supposed to be the most difficult to answer, as you have to convince the interviewer that you have the knowledge, aptitude, experience to meet their requirements.
These interview questions are mostly drawn from your field of expertise. And hence you should have proper knowledge on it.
For example, for the BHEL positions of Executives & Supervisors in IT discipline, your academic qualification requirement is a Masters/Bachelor Degree in Computer Science/IT and hence you should have proper knowledge on Computer Science/IT to answer the BHEL Interview questions on Computer Science/IT.
Since these questions would vary depending on your own area of expertise, let me limit myself to finding some sample interview questions for these BHEL positions in IT, Civil & Tech.Services disciplines.
BHEL Interview questions for Tech.Services discipline (Instrumentation/Physics/Electronics):
I found following three sources where you can find Interview questions for Tech.Services discipline:
123eng.com
placementpapers.net
Hope above prep materials (interview questions) for BHEL Interview helps you in preparing for the interview. As I said before, above preparation plan (i.e. finding materials for the three question areas) can be used for any sort of job-interview questions and not only for BHEL Interview.
Best wishes!
