Indian Air Force (IAF) is the world’s fourth largest Air Force with strength of nearly two lakh personnel. But it is facing a huge manpower crisis currently due to early voluntary retirement in addition to natural retirements.
It is for this reason as well as for obvious reason of reaching out to more prospective employees that IAF is organizing Fast Track Selection (FTS) from time to time for Engineers, MCA’s as well as PG in Science or Geography. Fast Track Selection (FTS) is also called as Direct Entry Scheme in IAF.
IAF has recently announced FTS on 9th August for following places:
Chennai, Bangalore, Thiruvananthatpuram, Jaipur, Guwahati, Chandigarh, Bhubaneswar.

Eligibility for IAF Fast Track Selection (FTS):
1.0 Both men and women can apply.
2.0 %age Eligibility:
Eligibility for Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) branch of IAF:
First Class (Min. 60% aggregate) BE/B. Tech in Electronics/ Telecommunication / Electrical / Electrical Communication / Electronics & Communication / Instrumentation /Information Technology /Computer Science & Engineering.
Eligibility for Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) branch of IAF:
First Class (Min. 60% aggregate) BE/B. Tech in Aeronautical/ Mechanical/ Production/ Industrial engineering.
Eligibility for Meteorological branch of IAF:
Second Class (Min. 50% aggregate) in MCA’s as well as PG in Science or Geography
(provided Math’s & Physics were taken at graduation level).
3.0 Age:
For Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics & Mechanical) branch of IAF:
18 to 28 years of age (DOB between 2nd January 1981 to 1st January 1991)
For Meteorological branch of IAF:
20 to 25 years of age (DOB between 2nd January 1984 to 1st January 1989)
Final year students having above qualifications are eligible, provided they produce the original / provisional certificate and mark sheet within 15th Dec, 2008.
Salary package as an IAF officer:
If you join Indian Air Force in Technical branches (Aeronautical Engineering) or in
Ground Duty Meteorological Branches and rise up the ladder, following are the pay packages offered to you:
Apart from the salaries, there are many benefits available to officers of the IAF including fully furnished accommodation, Group Insurance Cover of Rs 20 lakh, concessional travel rates during leave, loans for purchase of things like houses, cars, computers etc, medical facilities, rations, membership to clubs and other recreational facilities, schools (and transport) for children, various courses (abroad and domestic) to facilitate learning and career growth and many retirement benefits like pension, medical facilities etc.
Are you in doubt even now whether to join?
If you are in doubt whether to work whole life for IAF, than you can opt for Short Service Commission in stead of Permanent Commission.
If you opt for Short service commission, after working in IAF only for ten years, you can come out of it and join another job. You would keep enjoying the post-retirement benefits of IAF even while working for the second job.
If you wish to stay on, you can extend your tenure by five years. After this extension, you can extend your tenure by another five years or retire at forty whichever comes first. The Short Service Commission is available for both men and women.
