This exam is being held for two categories of officers - Specialists and Generalists. Papers for both the Generalist and Specialist posts are same except that there is an additional test section of Specialist stream, to assess the technical & professional knowledge in the relevant discipline. Lets find this in the next paragraph.

Admin Officer Exam 2015 Syllabus/ Exam Pattern:

OICL in its notification has not specified any specific syllabus for this exam. This can be expected, as same is the case with other competitive exams. But it has given the pattern/ format of the exam very clearly with which you can prepare for the exam easily. The same is given below:

For Admin Officer (Generalist):

There are five test sections - four of which would contain Objective type  questions where as the fifth section contain Descriptive type  questions. Duration is 2 hours for the four Objective sections and 45 minutes for the Descriptive section. 

Total marks in the exam is 200. You can find the pattern of Admin Officer (Generalists) Exam in the table as shown.

There are three questions in the English Language (Descriptive) paper, in which the question-wise mark-distribution is as below:

Essay: 15

Précis: 10

Comprehension: 15

For Admin Officer (Specialists):

As said,  pattern of exam is same as above except there is an extra test section for technical & professional knowledge. The pattern of exam for Admin Officer (Specialists) is given in the table. This paper would be specific to your discipline.

There are hence six test section for Admin Officer (Specialists). As you can see, number of questions for the first four section has been reduced from 40 to 30 to accommodate the extra paper. Total marks remains same - 200 and also the duration of exam -  hours for the four Objective sections and 45 minutes for the Descriptive section.

Things to remember:

1.0 There is negative marks for wrong answers - 0.25 mark for each wrong answer.
2.0 You have to appear in both Objective and Descriptive questions online in the computer provided to you..
3.0 There will be cut-off for each test section as well as for the whole paper. Hence you have to qualify each sections as well as in aggregate. Oriental Insurance would decide upon the cut-off after analysing the relative performance of all the candidates.

4.0 Descriptive section would be evaluated only in respect of those candidates who qualify the objective test.

This exam pattern is exactly same as that of the National Insurance Admin Officer Exam and also similar to the IBPS CWE PO Exam. You can therefore use the Prep materials for these two exams for the OICL Admin Officer Exam.
