SSC CGL (Combined Graduate Level) Exam 2013 Notification has been published just yesterday in major national/regional dailies as well as in Employment News dated 19th January, 2013. As per the notification, last date to apply for this exam is 15th February, 2013 and the exam would be held on 14th & 21st April, 2013.

Introduction to SSC CGL Exam:
SSC (Staff Selection Commission) is a cousin of UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) and it conducts recruitment exams for staff positions (Group “B” & “C” posts) in various central Govt. Ministries/Departments of India.
It conducts the Combined Graduate Level Exam every year in the month of July for recruitment of Inspector(Central Excise/ Income Tax, Assistant Enforcement Officer, Sub-Inspector (CBI), Divisional Accountant, Inspector of Posts, Auditor, Accountant, UDCs, Tax Assistants etc.

Number of post/vacancies in SSC CGL 2013:
The exact number of vacancies in CGL 2013 would be notified by SSC only later. However, in last two result declared Combined Graduate Level exams the vacancies were: 8584 (in CGL 2008) & 8403 (in CGL 2010). So you can expect a similar number of vacancies CGL 2013 - about 8500.
What were the category-wise vacancies? From the
latest SSC Annual Report, I have prepared the following statistics on how many applies for CGL exam, how many are interviewed and how many ultimately selected for Combined Graduate Level exam 2010 & 2008:
Again, following table would give you an idea about the percentage of how many were interviewed & how many selected in CGL 2008 from following table:
This shows that 3.1% of those who applied reached Interview stage. But however if you reach the SSC Interview, your job is almost sure - more than 60% of those who were interviewed were selected!
Pay-Scale/Salary for Group-B & C jobs in Central Govt through CGL:
Pay Scale being offered for Group-B & C positions in Central Govt through CGL is as follows:
Salary for Group B:
Rs.5400,Rs.4800,Rs.4600 and Rs.4200 in the scale of pay of Rs.9300 – 34800 in the Pay Band-2
Salary for Group C:
Rs.2800,Rs.2400,Rs.2000, Rs.1900 and Rs.1800 in the scale of pay of Rs.5200-20200 in the Pay Band-1
Eligibility for SSC CGL Exam:
Age Eligibility: (as on 01.01.2013)
Min: 18 yrs, Max: 27 yrs except following:
Statistical Investigator Gr.II: Max 26 Years.
Assistant/Sub Inspector in CBI: 20-27 years
Academic Qualification Eligibility: (as on 20.04.2013)
Graduation from a recognized University or equivalent, except for following two posts:
For Compiler : Bachelors Degree with Economics/Statistics/Maths as compulsory or Elective subject.
For Statistical Investigator Grade – II : Bachelors Degree with Statistics as one of the main subjects OR Bachelors Degree with Mathematics (with Statistics as a papers studied in one year/two years/all three year as the case may be) as one of the main subjects. OR Bachelors Degree with Economics (with Statistics as a paper studied in one year/two years/all the three years as the case may be) as one of the main subjects. OR Bachelors Degree with Commerce (with Statistics as a paper studied in one year/two years/all the three years as the case may be) as one of the main subjects.
SSC CGL Exam Selection Process:
The selection process for the SSC HS Level Exam consists of a three Tier selection process: Tier-I (Prelims) consists of 200 mark written test. CGL Tier-II (Mains) consists of 400 mark written test & CGL Tier-III consists of 100 mark interview. More about this in my next blog article titled:

Important Dates for SSC CGL Exam 2013:
Date of form submission (offline/online) starts: 19.01.2013.
Last Date of CGL 2013 offline form submission: 15.02.2013. For remote areas: 22.02.2013)
Last Date of CGL 2013 online form submission: Part-I: 13.02.2013 & Part-II: 15.02.2013.
Date of CGL 2013 (Tier-I) exam: 14th & 21st April,2013.
Date of CGL 2013 (Tier-II) exam: 20th & 21st July, 2013.
SSC CGL Exam 2013 Admit Card/Call Letter:
Your call letter/Admit card for SSC CGL Exam 2013 would be sent to you by post and in case you do not receive it 2 week prior to exam (say by 1st April, 2013), please contact the regional SSC office. You can also download the call letter/admit card from SSC Regional website.
