CISF SI Exam Pattern, Papers & Books

August 25, 2012

CISF SI Exam Pattern Sample Papers Prep BooksAs I had told you in my previous blog article titled: CISF SI Recruitment 2012 (LDCE) Notification, Form & Eligibility, this blog post is being made to help you prepare for the CISF SI (Sub-Inspectors) Exam by pointing you to the exam prep materials of CISF SI Exam - Sample Papers & Prep Books

At first let me tell you that although this article is being made on the eve of Limited Departmental Competitive Exam (LDCE) for Sub-Inspectors in CISF - the prep materials (i.e. Syllabus, Sample Papers & Books) can also be used for future examinees i.e. CISF SI Exam 2013/ 2014 as the pattern of the exam/selection process is not going to change soon.

CISF SI exam pattern:
CISF SI Exam PatternAs mentioned in the notification, CISF Sub-Inspectors written exam consists of a single paper of total 200 marks, which has to be answered in 3 ½ Hours. The table at right gives you a clear idea about the test sections and mark distribution in the CISF SI exam paper.

These test sections are identical to the SSC SI exam for recruitment of Sub-Inspectors  in the four CAPF (Central Armed Police Force) organisations - BSF, CISF, CRPF & ITBP, which you can find in the table below as well as in my previous blog post titled: SSC CAPF SI/ASI Exam Sample Papers, Books, Syllabus & Exam Pattern. If you analyse these two exam pattern/format closely, you will find that only "Part-C Quantitative Aptitude" section of CISF SI Exam is named as "Numerical Ability" in SSC CAPF SI exam, which actually means the same thing. Therefore, you can use the prep materials (i.e. Sample papers & Books) for CAPF to prepare for CISF SI Exam.

SSC CAPF SI exam patternThis exam format of CISF SI Exam is also similar to Bank Clerical/PO exams - which also has similar four test sections - Test of reasoning, General Awareness, Numerical Aptitude & test of English language. Since the test section and even mark distributions are so similar, you can therefore use the banking exam papers & books to prepare for CISF Exam.

Syllabus for SSC CISF SI Exam:
No syllabus has been prescribed in the exam notification for CISF SI exam. However, you can use the following syllabus prescribed of Delhi Police SI Exam as a reference syllabus:

Part-1. General Intelligence & Reasoning : It would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. This component may include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, spatial orientation, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning and figural classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning etc.

The topics are: Semantic Analogy, Symbolic/Number Analogy, Figural Analogy, Semantic Classification, Symbolic/Number Classification, Figural Classification, Semantic Series, Number Series, Figural Series, Problem Solving, Word Building, Coding & de-coding, Numerical Operations, symbolic Operations, Trends, Space Orientation, Space Visualization, Venn Diagrams, Drawing inferences, Punched hole/pattern-folding & un-folding, Figural Pattern- folding and completion, Indexing Address matching, Date & city matching Classification of centre codes/roll numbers, Small & Capital letters/numbers coding, decoding and classification, Embedded Figures, Critical thinking, Emotional Intelligence, Social Intelligence etc.

Part-2. General Awareness & Professional knowledge: Questions in this component will be aimed at testing the candidates general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of every day observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity, Indian Constitution, scientific Research etc.

Part-3. Numerical ability: The questions will be designed to test the ability of appropriate use of numbers and number sense of the candidate. The scope of the test will be computation of whole numbers, decimals, fractions and relationships between numbers, Percentage, Ratio and Proportion, Square roots, Averages, Interest, Profit & Loss, Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture and Alligation, Time and distance, Time & work, Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra and Elementary surds, Graphs of Linear Equations, Triangle and its various kinds of centres, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles, Triangle , Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square base, Trigonometric ratio, Degree and Radian Measures, Standard Identities, Complementary angles, Heights and Distances, Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar diagram & Pie chart.

Part-4. Comprehension and communication skill: Candidates’ ability to understand correct English, his basic comprehension and writing ability, etc. would be tested.

CISF SI Exam Sample/Previous years Papers:
I searched on the net for some sample/previous years papers of CISF SI Exam but could not locate any reliable, authentic papers. However, following two papers of SSC CAPF SI exam can act as eye openers:

From gjtutorial:

From placementpapers.net:

Since the above two papers can only act as eye-openers, I would recommend you to use the following books for preparing for CISF SI Exam, if you are serious about it.

Prep Books for CISF SI Exam:
I found following books good for preparation for CISF SI Exam. These books are for Sub-Inspectors (SI) Exam for CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) i.e. BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB etc. Hence besides CISF, these books can also be used for SI exam for  other forces i.e. BSF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB etc

As I had told above, CISF SI Exam is similar to Banking exams. Therefore, in addition to above, you can also go through the study materials posted for following banking exams:
SBI Bank PO Exam Sample Papers, Books & Exam Pattern

Hope with above study materials - the sample papers, books, syllabus and exam pattern analysis you can clear the CISF Sub-Inspectors exam confidently. I would keep on looking for more prep materails for this exam and post them here as and when I find the. So keep visiting this blog.

Exam Pattern of CSIR NET (JRF/LS) has been retained the same as previous years, with only some very minor changes in "Part-A" i.e. General Aptitude, which is common for all CSIR NET subjects. In addition,  for the very first time, CSIR NET is going to be conducted for Engineers with an additional subject -  Engineering Science.

This blog post has been made to present you the new CSIR NET Exam Pattern by incorporating those changes to help you prepare for the same. Exam Pattern of CSIR-UGC NET:
CSIR-UGC NET consists of only one paper which has three parts: Part-A, Part-B, Part-C. The total marks in the exam is 200 marks which needs to be answered in 3 hours.
Part-A is common to all while Part-B & C is subject specific. While new exam pattern of each of the six CSIR NET subject is given below, you can find the exam pattern of previous CSIR NET exams in this link.

CSIR NET Part-A:
As said, there is some very minor change in Part-A i.e. General Aptitude of CSIR NET.
Existing Syllabus: General Science, Quantitative Reasoning and Analysis and Research Aptitude.
Revised Syllabus: General Aptitude with emphasis On logical reasoning, graphical analysis, analytical and numerical ability, quantitative comparison, series formation, puzzles etc.

Other than above, mark distribution within the paper remains same - there are 20 questions in the paper, out of which you have to answer any 15. Each question weighs 2 mark - thus there are 30 marks in Part-A (General Aptitude) of CSIR NET.

In the tables for  CSIR NET Exam Pattern given below,
TQ: Total Question.
