IOCL Recruitment 2013 through GATE 2013 : Career Quips

Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) Recruitment through GATE 2013 Notification has just come out today for recruitment of 250 Graduate Engineers as Officers/ Graduate Apprentice Engineers (GAEs) & 150 Assistant Officers. While for the positions of Graduate Engineers even the freshers can apply, for the Assistant Officer positions, you need to have post-PG 3 years of Industrial Experience.
As per the notification, IOCL Online form for recruitment in 2013 would be made available from 10th December, 2012 and the last date for submission of the forms is 19th January, 2013.

This blog post is being made to apprise you about the IOCL job opportunity through GATE 2013 - what are the eligibility and the application forms i.e. how to apply, by quoting the relevant information from the IOCL advertisement for recruitment through GATE 2013. Towards the end of the article, I am posting the relevant prep materials for IOCL Recruitment 2013: GATE 2013 prep materials for Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science & Instrumentation papers as well as GD/Interview prep materials for IOCL.

But before that, a small synopsis on IOCL as an organisation since you should know about the organisation in which you are interested to work in.

IOCL as an organisation:
Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), is one among the only five Maharatna company - the highest rating for Indian PSUs. It is the highest ranked Indian Company with 83rd position in the prestigious ‘Fortune Global 500' list of companies in 2012. IOCL was recognized as one of the ‘Best Employers in India’ by the Great Place to Work Institute (GPW), India.

It is the 18th largest petroleum company in the world - owning 10 of 20 Indian refineries and selling more than 49% of total petroleum product sold in the country. It is India's largest commercial enterprise, with a sales turnover of Rs. 4,09,957 crore and profits of Rs. 3,955 crore.

Its geographical spread includes 20,575 retail outlets and 5,934 LPG distributor, which caters to more than 66.8 million households throughout India. It has international presence with subsidiaries in Sri Lanka, Mauritius and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), besides exporting products to countries such as Indonesia, Turkey, Thailand, Vietnam, Norway, Oman etc.

List of seven engineering disciplines for which these jobs in IOCL have been notified are as follows:
Civil Engineering (excluding Construction/ Environmental/ Transportation Engineering)
Chemical Engineering (including Petrochemicals Engineering)
Computer Science & Information Technology ( excluding information & communications Technology)
Electrical Engineering (including Electrical & Electronics engineering but excluding Electrical & Communication/ Telecommunication engineering)
Instrumentation Engineering (Including Electronics & Instrumentation engineering but excluding Electronics & Communication engineering/ Telecommunication engineering)
Mechanical Engineering (excluding Production/ Manufacturing/ Industrial Engineering)
Metallurgical Engineering.

GATE 2013 papers for IOCL Graduate Engineers & Assistant Officer Recruitment 2013:

For the Graduate Engineer positions, corresponding to above disciplines, you have to appear in following GATE 2013 papers: CE, CH, CS, EE, IN, ME & MT.

For the Assistant Officer positions, you have to appear in GATE 2013 papers of PH, CY & CS.

Salary for IOCL Graduate Engineers & Assistant Officer:

For the Graduate Apprentice Engineers (GAEs), IOCL is offering a consolidated stipend of Rs.35,000/- per month during the 1-year apprenticeship/training period. Upon the successful completion of the same, you will be absorbed as engineers/officers with the basic pay of Rs.24900/-per month in addition to which you will be entitled to DA and other allowances/perks. CTC for an IOCL engineer/officer is approx. Rs. 9.3 to 9.9 lakh per annum.

For the Assistant Officers, the basic pay offered is Rs.20,600/-per month with which approx CTC is Rs 6.50 lakhs.

Selection process for IOCL Engineer & Assistant Officer:

As said above, IOCL would short list the candidates for GD/Interview based on GATE 2013 core. IOCL itself will get the GATE-2013 scores directly from GATE authorities; you do not have to send it to them.

So GD & Interview are the only two stages which will be conducted by IOCL for selecting Graduate ET.

Eligibility for IOCL Graduate Engineer Recruitment:

Age Eligibility: Max 26 years as on 30th June 2013. (Relaxations exists as per Govt. rule).

Academic Qualification Eligibility: Minimum 65% marks in BE/ B.Tech for General/OBC category and just pass mark for SC/ST/PD from a recognized Indian Institute/University.

Final year students may also apply but you have to submit your final mark sheet by 31st August 2013.

Eligibility for IOCL Assistant Officers:
Age Eligibility: Max 30 years as on 30th June 2013. (Relaxations exists as per Govt. rule).

Academic Qualification Eligibility:
For General and OBC (non- creamy), minimum 60% marks in qualifying degree exam (M.Sc) and awarded post graduate degree in science in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. Just pass mark is required for SC/ST/PD. Qualifications should be from a recognized Indian Institute/University.

Industrial Experience Eligibility:

You need to have minimum 3 years of industrial experience after completion of PG in areas like process, manufacturing industry, logistics, sales & distribution, services industry etc. Teaching and research experience will not be counted as industrial experience.

Period under internship, done before completion of PG will not be considered as industrial experience.

How to apply for IOCL Engineer/Officer Recruitment 2013: Online Form

There is no offline form for IOCL Engineer/Officer Recruitment 2013. You have to apply online only.
You have to register (i.e. apply) actually twice for IOCL Engineer positions- Once for GATE & than for IOCL.

First you have to apply online for GATE 2013.

Last date for applying online for GATE 2013 is 30th September, 2012. So better hurry!

Subsequent to your online registration for GATE 2013, you would be able to download the GATE 2013 Admit card from 5th December, 2012 onwards. You than have to use the "GATE-2013 Registration Number" as given in the admit card to register online for IOCL.

The IOCL Engineer Recruitment 2013 Online form would be available from 10th December 2012 in this IOCL Latest Job-Openings webpage. Last date for submission of IOCL application form is 19th January, 2013.

IMPORTANT DATES for IOCL Recruitment 2013:

Start date for online registration for GATE 2013: 01.09.2012.
Last date of online registration for GATE 2013: 30..09.2012..

Date of availability of GATE 2013 Admit Card (hence GATE-2013 Registration Number): 05.12.2012.

Online registration for IOCL Recruitment 2013 starts: 10th December 2012.

Last date for submission of form for IOCL Recruitment 2013: 19th January, 2013.

GATE-2013 Online examination: 20th January 2013 (Sunday)
GATE-2013 Offline examination: 10th February 2013 (Sunday)
GATE-2013 result date:15th March, 2013 (Friday).

IOCL Recruitment 2013 GD/Interview Dates:

IOCL notification is silent about the date on which GD/Interview would be held, as they would shortlist the candidates only after GATE 2013 result is declared on 15th March, 2013. Therefore, you can expect the call letter only after this date – may be in the last week of March or first week of April, 2013.
