Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) is going to conduct a written exam for selection of vacancies in various positions of different departments under Government of NCT of Delhi and its autonomous/local bodies. This blog article is being written to help you prepare for the DSSSB exam – by giving you the syllabus, exam pattern, sample papers & prep books for the same.
If you have not so far applied for these DSSSB positions but would like to, please go through my previous blog article titled: DSSSB Recruitment 2013 Notification & Form, as it tells you what is DSSSB exam and how to apply for the same.
In the very beginning let me tell you that this DSSSB exam is being conducted for a wide range of posts, varying from Engineers to Drivers. Hence as specific prep materials for each and every post can not be given in a short article, I am only presenting the materials common for all posts. With that, let us know what is the selection process and pattern of DSSSB exam.
DSSSB Exam Pattern:
DSSSB written exam is held in two stages: Prelims (Objective type) & Mains (Descriptive type), which is conducted on the same day. For preparing the merit list, marks of only DSSSB mains exam is counted. Marks secured in DSSSB Prelims exam is for qualifying purpose only – just to screen the candidates for the Mains exam- those who can not qualify for the Mains exam, their Mains exam answer sheets are not evaluated.
Let us know go into each of the Prelims & Mains DSSSB written exam a little elaborately.
DSSSB Prelims Exam Pattern:
DSSSB Prelims exam is conducted for following three different categories of posts:
1.0 For Post Code 02/12 to 44/12 and 75/12 to101/12,103/12 to 156/12 and 159/12 to 165/12 – these are mostly Technical posts.
2.0 For Post Code 45/12 to 70/12 and 157/12 & 158/12 – mostly for PA/STENO/DEO/LDC/UDC etc.
3.0 For post code : 71/12 to 74/12 and 102/12 – i.e. for Drivers
So at first, know the post code for which you want to apply for/applied for the DSSB exam, to find the exam pattern.
DSSSB Prelims Exam Pattern for Post Code 02/12 to 44/12 and 75/12 to101/12,103/12 to 156/12 and 159/12 to 165/12:
DSSSB Prelims Exam Pattern for Post Code: 45/12 to 70/12 and 157/12 & 158/12:
DSSSB Prelims Exam Pattern for post code: 71/12 to 74/12 & 102/12 (for Drivers) - One Tier Main Examination (OTM):
DSSSB Mains Exam Pattern:
DSSSB Main Examination is Descriptive type – and questions will be from the specialization subject(s) specific to the post and will be of the same level as per the education qualifications eligibility as given in the notification. There will be 10 questions of 20 marks each (thus Total 200 marks) with parts/options/choices to be answered in 2 hour.
DSSSB Skill Test:
On top of DSSSB Mains exam there will be skill test for those short listed on the basis of Mains Exam for following posts:
1.0 Skill Test (Typewriting & Stenography): For Post Code : 46/12 to 52/12, 157/12.
2.0 Skill Test (Data Entry Operator): For Post Code : 45/12
3.0 Skill Test (Driving): For Post Code : 21/12, 71/12 to 74/12 and 102/12.
DSSSB Exam Syllabus:
Section-A:
(i) General Awareness: Questions will be designed to test the ability of the candidate’s General Awareness of the environment around him/her and its application to society. The questions will be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matter of everyday observation as may be expected of an educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries, especially pertaining to History, Polity & Constitution, Sports, Art & Culture, Geography, Economics, General Policy, Everyday Science, Scientific Research, National/International Organizations /Institutions and Current Affairs etc.
(ii) General Intelligence & Reasoning Ability: The syllabus of General Intelligence & Reasoning Ability includes questions of both verbal and non-verbal types. Test may include questions on analogies, similarities, differences, space visualization, problem solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship, concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series etc.
Section-B :
(i) Arithmetical & Numerical Ability : The test of Arithmetical and Numerical Abilities will cover Number Systems including questions on Simplification, Decimals, Fractions, L.C.M., H.C.F., Ratio & Proportion, Percentage, Average, Profit & Loss, Discount, Simple & Compound Interest, Menstruation, Time & Work, Time & Distance, Tables & Graphs etc.
(ii) Mathematics: The test of Mathematics will includes Arithmetical and numerical ability as mentioned above and questions on Algebra, Commercial Maths, Equations, Trigonometry, Geometry, Statistics, Probability, etc.
Section-C:
The test of Language Hindi & Language English: In addition to the testing of candidate’s understanding and comprehension of the English and Hindi Languages, questions on its Vocabulary, Grammar, Sentence Structure, Synonyms, Antonyms and its correct usage etc. would also be covered.
Section-D:
(i) Post specific subject related questions: Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions on the subject concerned as per the qualification prescribed in the Recruitment Rules for the post.
DSSSB Exam Papers & Books:
This DSSSB exam is being conducted for a wide variety of posts – as you can see in the section “DSSB Exam pattern”: there are three different type of Prelims exam. Also the Mains exam is specific to the post and hence the qualification.
However, I find the exam sections (General Awareness, General Intelligence & Reasoning Arithmetical & Numerical Ability and Test of English Language) are very similar to Bank PO & Clerical exams. You can therefore use the links below to find the sample papers and books for DSSSB exam:
