RBI Assistant exam Pattern, Papers, Books & Interview Questions

March 06, 2012

RBI Assistant exam pattern, papers, books & Interview QuestionsReserve Bank of India (RBI) written exam for selection of 1000 Assistants is on the anvil – scheduled to be held on 29th April, 2012. How do you prepare for this exam? This is the focus of this article – which points you to the sample papers for the exam as well as prep books along with a discussion on the pattern of this exam. Towards the end of the article, you can also find the materials to prepare for RBI Interview.

If you are a graduate with 50% marks and would like to apply for this exam but have not applied so far, please go through my previous blog post titled: RBI Recruitment 2012 (Assistants) Notification, Eligibility & Forms. This exam prep material is also posted for future RBI exams – say for suppose RBI written exam 2013/2014, as the pattern of material is not expected to change so much.

At first let me tell you that RBI Office Assistant is a clerical post – the qualification required for this job, the salary offered as well as exam pattern is same. Hence although no specific information on RBI Assistants exam could be found on the net, you can bank upon bank clerical exam papers and books of other bank exams such as IBPS Clerk exam, SBI Clerk exam etc.

First let us start that with the pattern of RBI Assistant written exam.

RBI Assistant exam pattern:
RBI Assistant exam patternAs per the notification, the written exam for Assistants consists of five test sections with 40 marks each – thus totaling 200 marks. The questions are going to be Objective type. With this, the format/pattern of RBI exam is as given at right.

In the notification, RBI has not specified what is the duration of the exam. But I expect the same to be of about 2 hours. It has also not specified if there would be negative marking. But you can expect negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer.

IBPS CWE Clerk Exam PatternThis exam pattern is exactly similar to IBPS Clerk CWE exam – you can just have a look of the pattern of IBPS exam as given at left. All the exam sections are similar – the only difference is there are 50 marks for each test section in IBPS CWE, while there are 40 marks in RBI Assistants exam.

So your exam preparation plan should be test section-wise - i.e. take one test section (say Test of Reasoning), gain confidence over it and than go for the next test section. Let me tell you that if you prepare accordingly, in case if you do not qualify in RBI Assistant exam - you can appear for 19 other PSU banks with this preparation through IBPS CWE.

Thanks Sir, this sir really the best blog I've been through. Sir I too have this same query as the person above me has asked. IBPS S.O. exam was really length, that had 200 questions in 2 hr with each question having five options so u cant go with searching ans from available options either, also the type of questions they've asked were time taking. Does these exams also the same pattern of lengthy questions ?

    Dear Shringi, Rizwana,
Yes, I think the RBI Exam questions will be as tough as IBPS CWE or may be more tough for following two reasons:

1.0 RBI is the apex bank of India. So the cometition is more to get a RBI job.

2.0 Salary offered for RBI clerks is more compared to PSU banks : starting basic pay is Rs. 8860/= with two increments, while for the clerks in PSU banks, starting basic pay is Rs. 7200/=.

But that should not discourage you. Try to learn time management through mock tests..

    Best wishes!

    Dear Sir,
I want to inform that lot of persons are applying in EX SM category.
However, they did not get NOC from defence services. They are simply blocking the vacancies.
It is my humble request kindly demand NOC/Discharge certificate during written exam only.
