 Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) has just today brought out the notification for 692 Trainee recruitments in staff cadre for its IISCO Burnpur plant: Attendant-cum-Technician: 392 positions & Operator-cum-Technician: 300 positions. Last date to apply for SAIL Technician Trainee Recruitment 2011 is 9th April 2011.
While this blog post aims to summarize the info contained in the SAIL notification, I would try to cover the study materials to prepare for SAIL Technician Trainee exam in a later post. What is SAIL: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is a PSU (Public Sector Undertaking), wholly owned by Government of India and is one of the largest steel makers in India. Formed on January 19, 1954 as Hindustan Steel Limited (HSL) and incorporated on January 24, 1973, it has traveled many miles to be among the top five highest profit earning corporates of the country. With a turnover of Rs. 50,000 crore and more than 131,910 employees, it produces 13.5 million metric tons annually and is the 16th largest steel producer in the world.

SAIL Technician Trainee vacancies: There are 692 Technician Trainee positions on offer for two grades as below: Attendant-cum-Technician(Trainee): GEN:200, SC:58, ST:29 , OBC: 105, TOT: 392 Operator-cum-Technician (Trainee): GEN:152, SC:45, ST:22, OBC: 81, TOT:300
SAIL Technician Trainee Salary: Salary being offered by SAIL for these positions are: Attendant-cum-Technician(Trainee): Scale of pay : Rs.8630- 3%- 12080 Operator-cum-Technician (Trainee): Scale of pay: Rs.9160 -3%- 13150 In addition to above Basic Pay, other benefits includes Medical, accommodation, CPF, Gratuity, LTC/LLTC, Leave Encashment, Production Incentive etc.
During the 2-year training period, the trainees will be paid consolidated pay as below: Attendant-cum-Technician: Rs. 6600/- per month for first year and Rs. 7700/- for the second year. Operator-cum-Technician: Rs. 8250/- per month for first year and Rs. 9350/- for the second year.
Eligibilities for SAIL Technician Trainee: For Attendant-cum-Technician(Trainee): Age eligibility: Max. 28 years as on 01.02.2011. Relaxations exist as per Govt. rule.
Academic Qualifications: Matriculation or equivalent and ITI.

SAIL Technician Trainee Selection process: The selection process consists of an objective type Written test (at Kolkata, Delhi, Nagpur and Hyderabad), followed by Interview for those selected in the Written test (at Kolkata).
