BARC OCES DGFS 2011 Notification, Eligibility & Forms

If you are an engineering graduate or a science graduate going for your PG, and would like to join the prestigious organisation BARC (Bhabha Atomic Research Centre), there are two avenues of employment for you:
1.0 OCES: Orientation Course for Engineers and Scientists.
2.0 DGFS: DAE (Department of Atomic Energy) Graduate Fellowship Scheme.
BARC had issued exam notification for BARC OCES & DGFS 2011 recently and you can find the same in this website.

What is BARC?
BARC OCES DGFS 2011 Notification Eligibility Forms
Bhabha Atomic Research Center (was previously known as Atomic Energy Establishment, Trombay) on January 3, 1954. It is India's primary nuclear research organisation and has a number of nuclear reactors, all of which are used for India's nuclear power and research programs. BARC also conducts research in biotechnology and has developed numerous disease resistant and high-yielding crop varieties.

What is BARC OCES program:
BARC OCES (Orientation Course for Engineers and Scientists) is a one year training program for graduates in Engineering or post-graduates in Science. On successful completion of the training, the trainees are posted as scientific officers in one of the following DAE units:
Atomic Minerals Directorate of Exploration & Research (AMD), Hyderabad
Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC),Mumbai
Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Ltd (BHAVINI), Kalpakkam
Board of Radiation and Isotope Technology (BRIT), Mumbai
Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT), Indore
Heavy Water Board (HWB), Mumbai
Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam
Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC), Hyderabad
Uranium Corporation of India Ltd(UCIL), Jaduguda
Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL), Mumbai
Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC), Kolkata.

The list of eight Engineering disciplines for BARC OCES is Chemical, Civil, Computers, Electrical, Electronics (also Electronics & Communication, Electronics and Controls), Instrumentation, Mechanical and Metallurgy. While the six BARC OCES Science subjects are: Physics, Chemistry, Biosciences, Radiological Safety Engineering (RSE), Geology and Geophysics.

What is BARC DGFS program:
BARC DGFS (DAE Graduate Fellowship Scheme) is actually a Fellowship Scheme for those who secure admission in select institutes on their own (based on valid GATE score) for following disciplines:
Mechanical Engineering, Cryogenic, Chemical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Civil Engineering, Earthquake Engineering, Nuclear Hydrology, Nuclear Hydrology, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science/ Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Systems & Control Engineering, Energy Systems, Power/ Communication/ Control Engg, Integrated Electronics & Circuits, Instrumentation, Computer Science, Engineering & Technology, Applied Optics, Lasers & Optoelectronics, Nuclear Engineering & Technology, Solid State Materials/ Electronic Materials, Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering.
You have to take admissions only on the prescribed institutes (mostly IITs and few NITs) and also prescribed Pre-M Tech qualifications, list of which can be found here.

DGFS are paid stipend and tuition fee to pursue M.Tech course. After successful completion of one-year course work at select institutes, the fellows undertake project work, which is assigned and supervised jointly by a DAE and an institute guide. On successful completion of M.Tech, they are posted as Scientific Officers in BARC, Mumbai or RRCAT, Indore or IGCAR, Kalpakkam..

Salaries for BARC OCES/DGFS:
OCES trainees as well as DGFS fellows are paid stipend of Rs 20,000 per month during the period of their training and a one-time book allowance of Rs 5,000.
On successful completion of the training, they are posted as Scientific Officer (C) in the pay band Rs 15,600-39,100 with grade pay of Rs 5,400. Monthly salary (with three increments) at the time of joining is approximately Rs 47,000.

BARC OCES/DGFS Eligibilities:
Age Eligibility: (as on August 1, 2011)
Max 26 years.

BARC OCES/DGFS Selection process:
Selection process for OCES/DGFS consists of short listing of candidates followed by interview. The short listing is based on two alternative methods:
i) BARC Written Test or
ii) GATE score.
Cut-off GATE score and Written Test marks for short-listing candidates for interview in each discipline are decided after the last date of receipt of applications. You can find more info on the selection process for BARC OCES/DGFS here.

For Engineering Disciplines opting for written test :
Offline forms: 18.03.2011; Online forms: 25.03.2011.
For Science Disciplines opting for written test :
Offline forms: 21.01.2011; Online forms: 21.01.2011.

For both Engineering/Science Disciplines opting for GATE score:
Offline forms: 25.03.2011; Online forms: 31.03.2011.

Written Test for Engineering disciplines: 24th April, 2011 (Sun).
Written Test for Science disciplines: 27th February, 2011 (Sun).
Date of Result i.e. shorlisted candidate for OCES/DGFS interview: 25th April, 2011 (Mon). (except those qualified through Engineering Written Test)

Interviews: May-June, 2011.

Based on these exam dates, BARC OCES/DGFS 2012 should be held on 26/02/2012 for Engineering disciplines while for Science disciplines the written test should be held on 22/04/2012 or 27/05/2012. You should check the BARC OCES website from December end/ January beginning to find the exact dates.
