This blog post follows my earlier blog post " AXIS Bank Freshers Recruitment 2010-2011" which is an introductory article on where you can find the Freshers job availability in Axis bank, what are the eligibilities required and how to apply Axis bank as a fresher.
The focus of this blog article is on how to prepare for the Axis Bank exam. It tells you about the pattern of Axis Bank Exam and points you to the sources for online sample papers and books for Axis Bank Exam.
At first, let us find out about the pattern of Axis Bank Exam. Axis Bank Exam Pattern:
Axis bank Recruitment notification 2010 does not says much about the pattern of written exam for for freshers - it does not specifies what papers would be asked in the exam, neither the mark distribution among the test papers. So I had to dig deeper into the Axis bank career website and found the pattern/format/scheme of the written exam in this FAQ page of Axis Bank exam website. As per this web page, the written exam will consist of following four test sections: 1. Aptitude 2. Reasoning 3. English and 4. Banking Awareness/GK So that's it - the Freshers Exam papers of AXIS Bank is identical to the Bank PO exams and hence you can use the sample papers and books of PO (Probationary Officers) exams for AXIS Bank Freshers Exam.
There are two types of tests in Bank PO written exam: Objective Test & Descriptive Test.
Let us go into more details of these tests: Objective Test Pattern of Axis Bank exam: In Bank PO exams, the Objective test consists of same four sections to be answered in about 2 hours: Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness & English Language with distribution of marks & questions as given below: There is negative marks for the wrong answers in the Objective Tests. You can use the above pattern of exam while preparing for Axis bank written exam.
Descriptive Test Pattern of Axis Bank exam: The Descriptive Paper consists of General Topic questions for Probationary Officers. 3 questions worth 60 marks are to be answered in 45 minutes.
In bank PO exams, the descriptive paper tests your Language composition, clarity of thoughts and brevity, higher order cognitive abilities, organization of ideas in a logical coherent manner and above all: your written communication skill.
Online sample/model/previous years papers of Axis Bank exam: I had searched for those online papers of Axis Bank exam which you would need for preparation of the exam. I could not locate any sample paper exclusive to Axis Bank exam. But however, I could fish out some sample papers for Bank PO exam, which I think would help in your preparation for Axis Bank exam:
From careers-india.com: It has 50 questions. Sample Papers for Axis Bank Descriptive English Paper Test:
You can find some sample questions on Bank PO descriptive tests again in the Competition Master in four menu option the section “BANK RECRUITMENT EXAMS”, as shown in the highlighted red box below: Books for Bank PO Solved previous papers papers: Although above sample papers gives you an exposure to what questions you may expect in the Axis Bank exam, your actual preparation should be based on books as the contents are more reliable. Following books can be used for your preparation. These books are available in most of the bookstores, but you can also order them online by clicking the links below, from Flipkart.com which offers huge discounts up to 25%, apart from free shipping/postage in India. Sample papers for Postal Assistants exam:
You must be searching for Sample/Model/Previous years papers of Postal Assistants exam and your searches may not have yielded very good results.
As there are not too many good papers on net for the Postal Assistants exam, yet based on my experiences on recruitment exams, I would like to draw the similarity between this exam and Data Entry Operator Exam conducted by SSC (Staff Selection Commission). Not only the test sections of the exams are similar, but even the minimum eligibility (Class-12th pass) of both the exams are also similar. Hence may be you can use these section-wise sample papers of SSC DEO exams to prepare for the Postal Assistants exam.

Bank PO Exams vs. Bank Clerical Exams – a comparative analysis
|
|
August 17, 2010
|
|
|
|
Indian banking industry, specially PSU banks, are on a recruiting spree, going for massive recruitments at all levels, specially Probationary Officers (PO) and Clerical cadres – the reason why you might be seeing recently almost eight out of ten articles on this blog notifying you about these job opportunities in Indian banks as well as telling you how to prepare for them.
As a close watcher of this recruitment drives for last two years, some very interesting facts have been gathered by me, which I would like to share with you. In a previous blog post of mine titled: Bank Exam pattern analysis: Similarity in Bank Exams, I had informed you that almost all Bank PO exams are identical and hence a good preparation for one exam would surely get you success in other bank exams too.
Now I would like to revise my above contention – not only Bank PO exams, but also Bank Clerical exams are identical. Preparation for Clerical exams for one bank exam would help you get the job for other banks too.
And what more, on doing a close analysis of Bank PO exams vis-à-vis Bank Clerical exams, I found that if you prepare for Bank PO exams, you can sit for Bank PO exams as well as Bank Clerical exams too, with minor extra-preparation like for any additional paper like: Marketing Knowledge, Computer Knowledge, Specialist IT paper, Clerical Aptitude etc.
This extends to even the academic eligibilities for PO exams and clerical exams, which are almost same.
Let me compare them one by one. In the comparisons of eligibility & exam patterns below, I have tried to generalize the PO exams as well as Clerical Exams – there are minor variations you may find in specific bank exams. And at the end of this blog article, I would tell you how this comparison is going to help you in getting that bank job.
First: Comparison of eligibilities for Bank PO exams vis-à-vis Bank Clerical exams: Age eligibility comparison: For Bank PO exam: Min age: 21 years, Max age: 30 years For Bank Clerical exam: Min age: 18 years, Max age: 28 years
My finding: If you are in between 21 years to 28 years, you can sit for both Bank PO exams as well as Bank Clerical exams.
Academic Qualification eligibility comparison: For Bank PO exam: 1.0 Minimum 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD) in graduation. 2.0 You need to have successfully completed a computer course of at least 6 months' duration from any Institute recognized by Central/State Govt. / AICTE.
For Bank Clerical exam: 1.0 Min. 50% (45% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD) marks in Class-XII or its equivalent OR a degree in any discipline. In some banks like SBI/UBI, minimum %age is 60% (55% for reserved candidates) in class-XII. 2.0 Essential – Ability to read, write and speak the Official Language for the state for which applying. 3.0 Desirable – Completion of a Foundation Course on Computer Awareness & Office Automation for a duration of minimum 3 months from a Computer Institute.
My finding: You can appear in both Bank PO exams as well as Bank Clerical exams, if: i) You had secured 60% in both Class-XII as well as in graduation. ii) You can read/ write/ speak the official language of your state. iii) You have successfully completed a 6 months' computer course from any recognized Institute.
With above findings, let us go on to compare the pattern/format of Bank PO exams & Bank Clerical exams.
Comparison of exam pattern/format of Bank PO exams vis-à-vis Bank Clerical exams: You would be surprised to find that even the exam pattern of PO exams and the Clerical exams is also very similar – written exam of both of them have following four common sections of paper: 1.0 Reasoning Ability. 2.0 Quantitative Aptitude. 3.0 General Knowledge. 4.0 English Ability. Quantitative Aptitude paper is called Numerical Aptitude in Clerical exams. Also in Bank Clerical exams, there is an extra paper called Clerical Aptitude. The standard of questions obviously is a little higher for PO exams compared to clerical exams.
The other difference in the selection process between Bank PO recruitment vis-à-vis Bank Clerical recruitment is: Bank PO recruitment has GD (Group Discussion) after the written test and before the interview. But in most Clerical recruitment, there is no GD – on being selected in the written test, you face the interview directly.
I would like to give below a generalized comparison of PO & Clerical exam papers along with distribution of test paper-wise marks: The cut-offs in the written test for most of the Bank PO & Clerical exam is 40% (35% for reserved candidates). In addition to scoring these cut-off marks, you need to be ranked high in the merit list to be called for interview/GD. Generally 3-times the vacancies are short listed in the bank written tests for interview/GD.
With above, you might have found that once if you have the eligibilities, you can appear in both PO as well as clerical exams. And since the written tests are so similar, you actually need not go for so much extra preparation.
So although you may be aiming for Bank PO exams, suppose if you do not click in the exam – go for Clerical exams too. Once you are inside the banking industry, the experience helps to answer interview questions. And you can than again appear for Bank PO exam – this time to become a Probationary officer!
This is the benefit I was talking about by showing you my above comparison – many of my blog readers (and now friends) who could not do well in Bank PO exams and whom I convinced on taking this route have now become Probationary officers!
For a detailed exam pattern of Bank PO exams along with the study materials – the sample papers & books for PO exams, I would like to point you to my following blog post:
Similarly, for a detailed exam pattern of Bank Clerical exams along sample papers & books for Clerical exams, I would like to point you to my following blog post:
Also, I had published a comprehensive list of 35 Bank Recruitment websites through the blog post titled: Bank Recruitment Notification and Result websites, which contained links to the recruitment pages of 22 Public Sector Banks and 13 Private Sector Banks. After you make your preparation for the bank exams, keep checking those websites periodically to find if any recruitment notification has been published.
Hope with above information you can find that dream bank job.
Best wishes!

NALCO GET MT Exam Sample Papers & Books
|
|
August 13, 2010

|
|

While that blog post helps you in applying for NALCO GET MT exam, this blog post tries to give you the study materials for this exam – the sample papers & books for NALCO GET MT exam.
At the very outset, let me tell you that information on NALCO GET MT exam is very scarce on the net – I had collected whatever information was possible from a number of websites.
First: NALCO GET MT Exam pattern/Selection process: The selection process for NALCO GET MT position consists of a written test followed by personal interview. In its recruitment notification, NALCO has not given much information on what would be the pattern of the written exam other than that it shall consist of following two papers: 1.0 General Aptitude Test. 2.0 Subject Knowledge Test. It has not how many questions would be asked, what marks it would contain or what would be the duration of tests.
But previous years NALCO exam papers used to consist of 60 questions each in General Aptitude Test & Subject Knowledge Test. The combined duration for both the test was 2 and half hours. You can expect similar pattern in your NALCO exam too.
Than: Sample papers/Books for NALCO GET MT exam: As I told you before, if you search “NALCO exam sample papers” on the net, although many websites promises you solved NALCO exam previous years papers, on landing at those websites you find that they only had spiced up the webpage content with false keywords – they do not gives you any actual paper. I could find only one NALCO exam previous years paper of 28 Oct 2007 for Electrical branch – you can find it in way2freshers.com.
So how should you prepare for NALCO exam? My advice would be to take the help of two separate exams: 1.0 For General Aptitude Test: Take help of Bank PO exam papers – Test of reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and also to some extent General Awareness section of bank PO exams. 2.0 For Subject Knowledge Test: Take help of GATE exam papers for your subject of specialization. This is the advice I give for most engineering recruitment exams in which prep material is not readily available.
With above preparation plan for NALCO exam General Aptitude Test, you can use the sample papers meant for bank PO exam posted in my previous blog article titled SBI PO exam sample papers & books to prepare for NALCO GET exam. Also with the same exam prep plan for the Subject Knowledge Test, you can use the GATE exam sample papers relevant to your discipline.
Prep Book for NALCO exam: As you can find above, NALCO exam consists of two papers: General Aptitude & Subject Knowledge.
For the BHEL General Aptitude Test take help of book Guide To General Apt. Test For NTPC, BHEL, SAIL by G. K. Publishers (Price:Rs. 220). This book is available in most of the good book stores. You can also order this book from Flipkart.com which offers free shipping/postage in India. You can choose to pay through Credit Card/Debit Card/Internet Banking. You can also choose to pay through “Cash-on-Delivery” i.e. you pay in cash only when the same is delivered at your doorstep.
NALCO exam interview questions: For job interview in any organisation, questions about how much you know about the organisation are bound to be asked. So go through the About us page of NALCO website.
This blog has excellent materials to help you prepare for the Bank of India PO Interview with a list of Interview questions.
For Interview, click here to visit this article, which tells you what are the requirements an interviewer looks for in you. It also gives you an interesting YouTube video telling you how you can also analyze an interviewer and hence be prepared for it. And than it gives you a list of 99 interview questions, which are most repeated in every other interview! These questions helps you prepare yourself.
Hope above sample papers and books helps you to prepare for NALCO exam - kindly post your exam experience in this blog post as comment so that it can help future NALCO examinees. I would also be on the lookout for more NALCO exam sample papers on the net and would post the same as and when I spot the. So keep visiting this blog!

UGC and CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test (NET)
|
|
|
|
|
|
National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted by UGC (University Grants Commission) and CSIR (Council of Scientific & Industrial Research) twice every year in the months of June and December. Like other times, CSIR-UGC has recently announced the dates of the NET exam and the purpose of this blog post and the next five others would be to familiarize you with what is NET, Schedule of NET, how to apply for NET and how to prepare for NET, so that you have a panoramic view of the whole exam even before you start preparation.
This particular post focuses on introduction of NET…
What is UGC-NET and CSIR-UGC NET? A brief history..
In early eighties, it was increasingly felt by public and leading educationists alike that quality of education system in India had deteriorated as a large number of people who had neither the competence nor the aptitude for teaching made an easy entry into the teaching profession. The cause for this was identified to be the absence of a Benchmark Qualifying test for entering into teaching profession.
Therefore, the Government on India, through a notification on 22nd July, 1988 entrusted the task of conducting the eligibility test for Lectureship to UGC. UGC was already conducting an examination for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) since 1984. As a result of this 1988 notification; UGC is conducting the National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) for Lectureship as well as with CSIR (CSIR-UGC NET) for both Lectureships as well as for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) since 1989.
What is the difference between UGC-NET and CSIR-UGC NET?
UGC NET (or simply called as NET) is held for 93 applied science/non-science subjects. On qualifying in this test, you become eligible to apply for the post of lecturer in all Indian universities/Institutes/colleges. UGC issues the notification for NET as well as conducts the exam.
While CSIR-UGC NET is held for pure-Science subjects (Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Earth Atmospheric Ocean & Planetary Sciences) & Engineering Science. On qualifying in this test, you become eligible to apply for the post of lecturer in all Indian universities/Institutes/colleges as well as to receive Fellowships (UGC/CSIR) under various schemes subject to you finding placement in the universities/IITs/other national organizations. CSIR issues the notification for CSIR-UGC NET as well as conducts it.
Why should you appear in NET exams?
Effective from 14th June, 2006, if you want to join the teaching profession as a lecturer in any of the UGC sponsored universities/Institutes/colleges, it is a must for you to qualify in the NET exam except if you are a Ph.D. degree holder (for PG level and UG level teaching) or a M.Phil degree holder (for UG level teaching only). Click here to read the UGC notification in this regard.
Also, CSIR-UGC NET qualification enables you to receive Fellowships as given above.
Hope above introductory information gives you a good idea on the NET as an exam. You may also like to go through following blog post on CSIR NET:
CSIR NET Syllabus & Sample papers: This article gives you the syllabus and sample papers for all CSIR NET subjects: Chemical Sciences; Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean & Planetary Sciences; Life Sciences; Mathematical Sciences and Physical Sciences.
In my next few blog posts, I would enlighten you on the Schedule of NET, how to apply for NET and how to prepare for the same. Just keep visiting this blog….

RBI Executive Intern Exam Pattern, Sample papers & Books
|
|
August 01, 2010
|
|
|
|

This blog post focuses on providing you the study materials for RBI Executive Intern Exam: the sample papers and books with a discussion on the written exam pattern.
Having said that let us go on to explore RBI Executive Intern Written Exam.
RBI Executive Intern Exam Pattern/Selection Process: RBI Executive Intern selection process consists of two stages: Written test followed by Interview. The final merit list is decided based on the aggregate of marks obtained in the Written test as well as the Interview.
RBI in its exam notification, has not said much about the pattern of written exam except that it would consist of following 4 papers for a total of 200 marks, which has to be answered within 3 hours: 1. General Awareness 2. English Language 3. Quantitative Aptitude. 4. Reasoning. It has not said much about how many questions would be asked in which paper. But above exam plan (the four papers and the total mark and exam duration) is very similar to any Bank PO exams, as you could find from a recent Syndicate Bank PO exam, which had the section-wise distribution of marks as below: Kindly note that above pattern is only indicative, just to give you some idea - there are differences like there is no computer proficiency paper in RBI exam. Also in RBI Intern exam, test of English language may not be for qualifying purpose unlike Syndicate Bank.
RBI in its exam notification, has also not said about whether there would be negative marking. But it is safe to assume in your preparation stage that there is negative marking for wrong answers.
RBI Executive Intern Exam cut-off: You have to pass each of the four objective tests individually, cut-off for which would be decided by RBI based on relative performance of all candidates taken together. On top of that, you need to be sufficiently high in the merit list to be called for the interview.
RBI Executive Intern exam sample papers/previous years papers: As I had pointed out above, RBI Executive Intern exam is very similar to Bank PO exams and hence it is a good idea initially to make your preparation based on the Bank PO sample papers available in the internet, just to find the standard of questions. Later on, you may go for in-depth studies from books.
Therefore I searched on net and could find following Bank PO sample papers, which you can use for RBI Executive Intern written exam:
RBI Executive Intern Exam Sample paper - Test of Reasoning: Click here to find a previous years Andhra Bank PO exam sample paper (test of reasoning). Besides sample papers which have been mainly sourced from Competition Master website, you would definitely like to download this Bank PO mock test paper from India Study Channel website.
