CPF Exam Syllabus
This blog post is being made as a part of the blog article titled: UPSC CPF Exam Question papers with syllabus and exam pattern to give you the study materials for the CPF Exam.

The syllabus of CPF exam has been reproduced below from UPSC exam website.

There are two papers in the UPSC CPF Written Exam:
Paper I: General Ability and Intelligence: 250 marks.
Paper II: Essay, Précis Writing and Comprehension: 150 marks.
Subsequent to qualifying in the UPSC Written test, you have to appear in the UPSC Interview for 200 marks. The merit list is based on thus a total of 600 marks.

CPF Exam Syllabus Paper I : General Ability and Intelligence
The objective type questions with multiple choices in this paper will broadly cover the following areas:

1. General Mental Ability:
The questions will be designed to test the logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude including numerical ability, and data interpretation.

2. General Science:
The questions will be set to test general awareness, scientific temper, comprehension and appreciation of scientific phenomena of everyday observation including new areas of importance like Information Technology, Biotechnology, Environmental Science.

3. Current Events of National and International Importance:
The questions will test the candidates’ awareness of current events of national and international importance in the broad areas of culture, music, arts, literature, sports, governance, societal and developmental issues, industry, business, globalization, and interplay among nations.

4. Indian Polity and Economy:
The questions shall aim to test candidates’ knowledge of the Country’s political system and the Constitution of India, social systems and public administration, economic development in India , including its indicators.

5. History of India:
The questions will broadly cover the subject in its social, economic and political aspects. This shall also include the areas of growth of nationalism and freedom movement.

6. Indian and World Geography:
The questions shall cover the physical, social and economic aspects of geography pertaining to India and the World.


CPF Exam Syllabus Paper II: Essay, Précis Writing and Comprehension
This paper shall test candidates’ ability to bring to fore his/her ideas on the given essay topic, arrange them in a coherent, orderly, concise, understandable and lucid manner in effective and grammatically correct language free from spelling errors.

Further, this shall test candidates’ ability to understand the given passages for précis writing and comprehension and their skills to summarize the précis passage and reply to the short-answered questions on the comprehension passage.

Founded in 1956, The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) is the largest life insurance company in India with 2048 branches, 105divisional offices and 8 zonal offices, employing over 1 million agents. It also operates in 12 other countries, primarily to cater to the needs of Non Resident Indians.

A recent Economic Times Brand Equity Survey rated LIC as the No. 1 Service Brand of the Country. Such is the reach of LICI that in the financial year 2007-08, Life Insurance Corporation of India's number of policy holders are said to have crossed a whopping 220 million (fourth in terms of population of the countries of the world). LIC Assistant Engineer vacancies:
There are a total of 47 vacancies, with the branch-wise break-up as below:
Assistant Engineer (Civil): 32
Assistant Engineer (Electrical): 15

LIC Assistant Engineer eligibility:
Age eligibility (as on 1st May, 2010):
Min: 21 years, Maximum: 30 years.
Age relaxations exist as per Govt. rule.

Academic eligibility
Eligibility for Assistant Engineer (Civil): Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering.
2-years experience in construction of buildings & townships, repair and maintenance of buildings.
Desirable: experience in multi-storied buildings.

Eligibility for Assistant Engineer (Electrical): Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering.
2-years experience in electric installation works, works in high rise office buildings, air conditioning, high tension installations, fire fighting systems, maintenance of electric installation, UPS, data cabling, awareness of Energy Audit.

LIC Assistant Engineer Salary:
Pay scale for Assistant Engineer being offered is Rs.11,110-20,910 (likely to be revised) with other allowances. Monthly salary in metro is Rs.20,160/= aprox.

LIC Assistant Engineer selection process:
Selection would be based on interview alone.
Based on the data filled by in the LIC application form, the candidates are going to be shortlisted and called for interview.
