Bank Recruitment 2010 - 22000 PSB vacancies

February 25, 2010

Bank recruitment in India has always been good – if you had followed this blog closely for last one year, you must have found that even in the worst time of recession, banking sector continued to churn out huge number of recruitments, in different positions such as Clerks, Probationary Officers (PO) as well as Specialist officers in the field of IT, Finance, Legal, Security, Research & Planning.

And if this story of today’s Economic Times (dtd. 25/02/2010) is to be believed, recruitment in Public Sector Banks (PSB) in 2010/2011 would be huge – 22,000! Quoting from this story:

…Banks are firming up their recruitment drive and have already initiated the process. According to the director of Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS), M Balachandran, the staff shortage may far exceed 22,000. “The banks have more stringent in their recruitment process, but given the expansion that banks are looking for they’ll far exceed these numbers,” he said….

Why Banks are going in for such huge recruitment?
The two reasons bank recruitments are being planned in so huge numbers:
1.0 The rapid expansions drive being planned by the banks.
2.0 Vacancies created by large scale superannuation of the bank employees.

Want a bank job, that too a secured PSB bank job?
If you want to use this huge opportunity for a bank job, than it is the right time to prepare for it. Let me tell you bank recruitment exams are easy and moreover, once if you prepare for one bank exam, you can keep on appearing in almost all exams without any further preparation.

How and Why? Because the patterns of recruitment exams of all banks are identical with following four exam sections/papers:
1.0 Test of Reasoning
2.0 English Language
3.0 Quantitative Aptitude
4.0 General Awareness.
Also, in most of the bank exams, in the written test where descriptive paper is also asked (in addition to the objective questions papers), the subject is “Descriptive Test in English”.

Read more about the similarity of bank exam pattern in my previous blog post titled: Bank Exam pattern analysis: Similarity in Bank Exams – it establishes the similarity by giving you the exam pattern of six major banks – SBI, IOB, UBI, PNB, RBI & Andhra bank.

The similarity in bank exam pattern can also be attributed by the fact that the bank recruitment is done through a common body called IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection), which helps the bank in selecting, placing and promoting employees. IBPS alone has processed over 70 lakh applications this year.

So prepare only for once for the bank exams and than keep appearing for the bank exams one after another till you succeed, depending on your eligibility and preference. I am sure you are going to be one of those 22,000 successful candidates!

Where to find those Bank Recruitment Notifications?
The banks put up the recruitment notification in leading news paper dailies, Employment News as well as in the bank websites in recruitment/career section. Which are these bank websites?

You would find these websites in my previous blog article titled: Bank Recruitment Notifications and Result websites – which list the recruitment website links of following 21 public sector banks along with RBI:
State Bank of India, Allahabad Bank, Andhra Bank, Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, Canara Bank, Central Bank of India, Corporation Bank, Dena Bank, IDBI Bank, Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Punjab National Bank, State Bank of Mysore, Syndicate Bank, UCO Bank, Union Bank of India, United Bank of India, Vijaya Bank.

The same blog post also gives you the bank recruitment webpage’s of following 13 private sector banks:
Bank of Rajasthan, Axis Bank (Previously known as UTI Bank), Catholic Syrian Bank, Dhanalakshmi Bank, Federal Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, ING Vysya Bank, Jammu & Kashmir Bank, Karnataka Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, YES Bank.

Keep visiting those bank recruitment websites from time to time. Also, keep visiting this blog, as it provides you not only information about bank recruitment notifications but also provides you the study materials for the bank recruitment exams, for example: this blog article on SBI Bank PO Exam Sample Papers, Books & Exam Pattern!

WIPRO Campus Interview Questions, Exam Pattern & Prep Books

February 21, 2010

WIPRO Campus Interview Questions Exam Pattern
IT major WIPRO is going for massive campus recruitment in 2010/11 and plans to hire 7500 freshers. Not only WIPRO, but also other IT companies are going for huge campus recruitment in the coming days. If this story of Economic Times dtd. 15th Feb 2010 is to be believed, the headcount in IT industry is expected to go up by more than 98,000. Quoting Economic Times:

Of the 12 companies which have announced their hiring plans, BPO giant Genpact said it would hire 10,000 people. Besides, IBM is looking at recruiting 5,000 followed by Infosys BPO (2,000), Accenture (8,000) and Mphasis (2,000).

Going by Gartner estimates, the domestic IT market is expected to grow by 19-20 per cent in 2010, a sharp rise against a 2.6 per cent growth in 2009.

This blog post is therefore being made to help the freshers know what is the selection process in a WIPRO campus interview – the exam pattern and would point you to the sources where you can find the WIPRO Interview questions so that you can base your preparations for it. You can also read my previous blog article: WIPRO Freshers Recruitment 2010:engineering/non-engineering which tells you what are the eligibilities for a WIPRO fresher and how to apply for it.

WIPRO Campus Interview selection process:
The selection process in a campus interview session normally kicks off with a 20 minute PPT (Pre-Placement Talk) presentation by WIPRO HR guys in which you are told about the company, what it looks for you and what you can expect after joining it. You should pay proper attention to these presentations, as you can answer many HR interview questions from the information gathered from this PPT presentation.

How does a PPT presentation looks like? You can experience it from the NEPIF you-tube video below (WIPRO BPO PPT on 25th aug, 2007 at Guwahati univeristy, Assam):

Thereafter, the WIPRO Campus Interview selection commences in following 3 stages:
1.0 Written Aptitude Test.
2.0 Technical Interview.
3.0 HR Interview.
What is the cut-off in WIPRO selection process? This is the most asked question by freshers vying for a WIPRO job. Well let me tell you that no one can tell you what is the cut-off at various stages, as the cut-off depends upon the relative performance of fellow-freshers, with whom you are competing for the WIPRO job. Till the exam is completed and the marks are assessed, no one have any idea who would score how much.

So depending upon the relative performance of all freshers for that particular Campus Interview and also how many positions are open, the cut-off is decided on the spot by WIPRO HR guys on that day. Your task is therefore very well defined – try to score as much as possible in all the three stages.

Let us go into detail of the three stages of WIPRO campus recruitment process.

WIPRO Campus Interview Written Aptitude Test questions:
There are 50 questions in 3 sections of the WIPRO written test –Verbal, Quantitative and Technical aptitude, with distribution of questions as below:
1. Verbal Aptitude- 15 questions.
2. Quantitative Aptitude – 15 questions.
3. Technical Aptitude -20 questions.
In some cases, number of questions may also be Verbal=20, Quantitative=20 and Technical=10.

What sorts of questions are asked in these WIPRO written aptitude tests?
1. Verbal Aptitude Questions:
Fill in the blanks with correct words, analogies, deriving conclusion, logical sequence of sentences, identifying the wrong sentences, meaning of word, passages etc.

2. Quantitative Aptitude Questions:
Time and work, speed and distance, profit& loss, number series, seating arrangement, coding decoding, ages, blood relationship, probability, permutation and combination etc.

3. Technical Aptitude Questions:
C (factorial of a no., sum of 5 elements in an array, basic concepts of pointers, structure), C++, data base, Java, Unix commands.

For non-IT/CS freshers, you do not have to bother about database, java etc. and also the cut-offs in this section would be much less.

There is sectional cut-off for each of these three sections – so you have to do well in each section. There is however no negative marks.

Books for WIPRO Campus Interview written tests:
You can refer the following books for preparation of WIPRO written test:
1. For Verbal Aptitude:
Cover Price:Rs. 375

Barrons GRE by Samuel C. Brownstein, Mitchel Weiner and Sharon Weiner Green
Cover Price:Rs. 425, Offer Price:Rs. 310, Discount:Rs. 115 (27%)

2. For Quantitative Aptitude:
Cover Price:Rs. 250

3. For Technical Aptitude:
Cover Price:Rs. 240, Offer Price:Rs. 228, Discount:Rs. 12 (5%).

WIPRO Technical Interview Questions:
As you clear the first hurdle of the WIPRO screening process i.e. the written test, you would be called for the technical interview. The questions in the technical interview mostly revolves round your academic project.
You can visit following two websites on WIPRO Technical Interview Questions:

WIPRO HR Interview Questions:
This is the final hurdle between you and the dream WIPRO job. But do not worry much about the WIPRO HR Interview. The questions asked are very general and if you maintain your cool and be confident, you can clear the HR interview very easily. As told before, you can answer many HR interview questions from the information gathered from this PPT presentation.

Following are some sample HR interview questions:
1) How was your technical interview.
2) Tell us about yourself
3) What do you know about WIPRO
4) Why should we hire you
4) What difference do you bring if we hire you.
5). What is the first thing that you are going to do after joining our company.

You can visit following two websites on WIPRO HR Interview Questions:

Hope with above WIPRO Campus Interview Exam Pattern, Interview questions and prep books you would be able to crack the placement event very easily. I would be on the look out for more information on WIPRO placement event and post the same here. So keep checking this blog.

Best wishes!

AIIMS entrance study materials – AIIMS sample papers & books

February 20, 2010

AIIMS entrance study materials AIIMS sample papers books
This blog post sequels my previous blog article titled: AIIMS MBBS Entrance Exam 2010: Notification, Eligibility & Forms, which tells you about the AIIMS notifications in detail and how to apply for the same.

Once you have made up your mind to appear in the AIIMS MBBS entrance exam, you would naturally want some study materials and this blog post gives you precisely that – pointing you to the sources of AIIMS exam sample papers and the list of books, based on which you can make your preparation.

By the way - AIIMS exam pattern is similar to that of AIPMT exam pattern and hence once you make your preparation for AIIMS, you can easily appear in AIPMT with same preparation. Find a comparison between these two exams in my previous blog post. Let us discuss AIIMS exam pattern in detail.

AIIMS MBBS entrance exam pattern:
AIIMS MBBS entrance exam pattern
AIIMS entrance exam consists of a 3½ hour long, 200 Objective type questions of 200 total marks (1 mark each question) with distribution of questions as shown at right.

As you can see, AIIMS exam not only tests your subject knowledge but also tests how much general awareness you have through its GK paper. AIPMT exam does not have a GK section.

Also, there is negative mark of -1/3 for each wrong answer. So make your guesses wisely!

AIIMS MBBS entrance exam syllabus:
You would be finding many websites/blog giving you the syllabus of AIIMS MBBS entrance exam. But do not be fooled by them – AIIMS has not prescribed any syllabus for its MBBS entrance exam. All it says is that the questions would be of the standard of Class-XII.

AIIMS MBBS entrance exam sample papers:
AIIMS MBBS entrance exam sample papers
Sample papers of AIIMS MBBS exam is difficult to find on the net. Although there are chores of websites offering you the entrance exam sample papers, once you land up in the website, you would find that those papers does not exists.

However, I found the AIIMS paper from TCYonline to be some what good ones. You can find these papers here. These are online tests and you can not download them. To appear in the tests, you need a free registration.

AIIMS MBBS entrance exam Prep Books:
Since AIIMS sample papers available on the net is not adequate, you may base your preparation on the preparatory books available for AIIMS exam. However keep in mind that these books only helps you to test whether you know the answer of a specific question – it does not helps you grow your concepts, for which you have to be thorough with your Class-XII subjects.

AIIMS MBBS entrance exam Prep Books
I found following books on net for preparation for AIIMS entrance exam. These books are available in most of the bookstores, but you can also order them online by clicking the links below. Flipkart.com offers huge discounts up to 20%, apart from free shipping/postage in India if the order exceeds Rs. 100/=.

Hope with above study materials for AIIMS MBBS entrance exams, you can crack the exam easily. I would be on the look out for more resources for AIIMS entrance exam – the sample papers, books an coaching institutes. So drop in here again.

Best wishes!

February 18, 2010

AIIMS Entrance Exam 2010 Notification Eligibility Forms
All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has just few days back issued exam notification for its MBBS entrance exam for its August, 2010 batch.

This blog post tries to encapsulate the AIIMS exam notification touching upon the important points while the subsequent blog article would give you the AIIMS entrance study materials – sample papers & books for preparation of the exam.

Compare this with the acceptance rate of Ivy League institutes like Harvard –7.1% (22,955 students applied, 2,058 accepted), Yale – 8.3%... source: NY Times.

Army Medical Corps SSC 2010: Notification, Eligibility & Forms

February 16, 2010

Army Medical Corps SSC 2010_ Notification, Eligibility, Forms
Armed Forces Medical Service of Indian Army has recently issued recruitment notification for 380 positions of medical officers in Army Medical Corps (AMC) on short service commission (SSC). This notification has been published in all major regional/national dailies, including Telegraph India (page-5) on 14th Feb, 2010. Since the notification has not been updated so far in Indian Army website – I have scanned the notification. You can click here to download the Army Medical Corps SSC 2010 Notification.

What is Army Medical Corps?
As the name suggests, Army Medical Corps is the support service of Indian defence forces, providing the medical support in the battle-front as well as in the barracks. It was formed as Indian Army Medical Corps on 03 Apr 1943 by the amalgamation of the Indian Medical Service, the Indian Medical Department and the Indian Hospital Corps. On 26th January 1950, Indian Army Medical Corps was renamed as Army Medical Corps. More on Army Medical Corps can be known from this webpage of Indian Army.

Than what is SSC (Short Service Commission)?

Infosys Campus/Off-campus Recruitment 2011-2012 for freshers

Infosys Freshers Recruitment 2010
Infosys Technologies Ltd. it is going to recruit 15000 freshers as per its Q3 result (dtd. 12/01/2010). I quote below the relevant portion from page-5 of the Q3 result:
"…In Q4, we are going to hire 6,000 people. For the year, we are hiring 25,000 people. For next year, we are making 15,000 campus offers..."
- by S. Gopalakrishnan, CEO & MD, Infosys Technologies.

If the recruitment of Infosys goes as per above plan, than it is the right time for freshers to try for Infosys and this blog post revolves around freshers recruitment at Infosys – how to apply as a fresher for an Infosys job, what is the recruitment process etc.

But before that, although Infosys does not need an introduction – a small primer for you to know Infosys as an organisation, which may be handy at the time of Infosys interview.

What is Infosys:
Infosys Freshers Eligibility
Infosys is one of the largest IT companies in India with 105,453 professionals working in over 50 offices and development centers in India, China, Australia, the Czech Republic, Poland, the UK, Canada and Japan.
How good is Infosys as an organisation can be judged from the fact that it is being voted the 'Most Admired Indian Company' in The Wall Street Journal Asia 200 for 10 years in a row since 2000.
More about Infosys can be found in this About us page as well as in Wiki.

If the above statistics on Infosys has impressed you, naturally you would like to know how tough is to get a job in Infosys – well it is tough - in 2007, Infosys received over 1.3 million applications and hired fewer than 3% of applicants.

Infosys Freshers Recruitment process:
There are two ways in which a fresher can apply for an Infosys job:
1.0 Campus Recruitment.
2.0 Off-Campus Recruitment.

Infosys Campus Recruitment:
Infosys relies heavily on campus recruitment for its intake of freshers. It does this by maintaining a close relation with institutes of repute through its various programs like Campus Connect (the academia-industry initiative to “align college curriculum with the industry’s requirements”), Instep (the Global Internship Program) as well as its normal campus hiring programs.

Infosys campus recruitment for freshers in engineering institutes takes place from May to September while in management institutes campus recruitment takes place from December to March.

If your institute already has a tie-up with Infosys for campus recruitment, than get in touch with your placement coordinator to know when Infosys is coming for the next campus recruitment.

On the other hand, if Infosys has never visited your college for campus recruitment but you think that the college/student standard can impress Infosys HR to consider for campus recruitment than get in touch with Infosys at mail-id careersquery@infosys.com.

For Infosys Off-Campus Fresher Recruitment:
For those of you who have missed the benefit of Infosys Campus recruitment, do not worry – you can apply directly to Infosys through its CareerPlus program. Click here to find the Online form for Infosys CareerPlus. You can than search for jobs and apply.

You can also search for an Infosys Fresher position through job portals like monster, naukri etc.

Infosys Fresher Eligibility:
Eligibility for freshers to participate in Infosys recruitment events depends on for which Infosys divisions the recruitment is being done.

Infosys BPO fresher eligibility:
The eligibility for is not much and is as below:
1.0 Minimum qualification - Graduation/Diploma (10+2+3)
2.0 Should have good communication skills & willing to work in shifts.

Infosys IT/ Consulting fresher eligibility:
The eligibility depends on which positions they wants to fill, but an average requirement is given below:

1.0 Fresh Engineering Graduates / Post Graduates, M.Sc (Maths, Statistics, Physics or Computer Science) or MCAs.

2.0 Excellent academic record, through out till Engg./Graduation and Post Graduation. The %age eligibility criteria depends on which technical positions they wants to fill but in no cases minimum %age is less than 60% - all through out from Class-X till graduation.

3.0 Must not have participated Infosys selection process in past 9 months.

Infosys in its career website does not say much about the eligibility criteria/recruitment process for freshers and above information has been compiled from a number of websites. Hope you found the same useful. In the forthcoming days, I would post more info on Infosys Fresher selection tests – like Infosys exam pattern, sample papers and books. So keep looking for more in this blog!

Power Grid ET Exam Sample Papers, Books and Exam Pattern

February 10, 2010

Power Grid ET Exam Sample Papers Books and Exam Pattern
This blog post is a sequel to my earlier blog article titled "PGCIL ET Recruitment 2011 Notification, Eligibility & Forms", which gives you introductory information on Power Grid Corporation as well as how to apply for the Executive Trainee positions.

The focus of this blog post is to help you prepare for the Power Grid exam by telling you what the Power Grid test pattern is and by giving you the sources to download model/sample/past years papers for exams similar to Power Grid. Further, it would also give you the list of some books for preparation of Power Grid exam.

At first let us begin this by knowing Power Grid written test pattern.

Power Grid ET Exam Pattern:
Power Grid written test consists of two papers: Technical Knowledge Test (TKT) &Executive Aptitude Test (EAT). While the questions of Aptitude test is common, questions of the Technical test would depend on which disciplines (Electrical or Finance) you have applied for.

There are 120 questions in Technical test & 50 in Aptitude – so a total of 170 multiple-choice questions, which needs to be answered in 2 hours. Thus you have 40 seconds aprox. to answer each question – the questions as such are not difficult and therefore your main focus would be time-management to answer maximum questions correctly.
Notes of caution: There is negative marking: 1/4th mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. So if you make a guess, make it wisely!

For Aptitude test the questions asked are on vocabulary, verbal comprehension, quantitative aptitude, reasoning ability, ability to determine data sufficiency, interpretation of graphs/charts/tables, numerical ability etc.

Power Grid ET exam papers:
I had searched on the net for for Power Grid ET exam sample/model/previous years paper but could not find any website where you can find them. However, I could find some papers of NTPC ET exam which can be used by you, just to know the standard of questions. Exam patten of NTPC is identical to Power Grid.

These papers are:
Placementpapers.net
Placementpapers have a good collection of NTPC test papers of previous years. Click here to find these NTPC papers.

123eng.com
Another good site where you can find some more NTPC papers is 123eng.com. Click here to find these NTPC papers.

All the above papers should be used with a pinch of salt – I found many of them repeated in more than website. Therefore, you can use the following books as preparatory material for the Power Grid test for Executive Trainees. You can also use these sample papers for aptitude test which I had posted for SBI PO exam, as the sections of the Aptitude tests are similar.

Books for Power Grid test for Executive Trainees:
I found following books on net for preparation for Public Sector Executive Trainee Exams, which can be used for PGCIL exams too. These books are available in most of the bookstores, but you can also order them online by clicking the links below, from Flipkart.com which offers huge discounts upto 25%, apart from free shipping/postage in India if the order exceeds Rs. 100/=. You can choose to pay through Credit Card/Debit Card/Internet Banking. You can also choose to pay through “Cash-on-Delivery” i.e. you pay in cash only when the same is delivered at your doorstep:

For Aptitude Test:
List Price: Rs.220, Offer Price: Rs.169, Discount: Rs. 51(23%)

List Price: Rs. 415, Offer Price:Rs. 303 Discount: Rs. 112 (27%)

List Price: Rs.160, Offer Price: Rs.130, Discount: Rs. 30(19%)

For Technical Test:
Following books for competitive exams (electrical engineering) should help you prepare for Power Grid ET exam:
List Price: Rs.480, Offer Price: Rs.480.
List Price: Rs.460, Offer Price: Rs.414, Discount: Rs.46 (10%)

Power Grid GD topics/Interview questions:
Post PGCIL written test, you have to appear for GD & Interview.
For GD, you may go through the blog post of mine titled Group Discussion for job, which tells you nuances of GD and how to prepare for it. Also for preparation of interview, check my other blog post titled: Interview for Jobs.

I am sorry but I could not find any sample papers/books for Power Grid exam for finance discipline. If you know of any such book for preparation of Power Grid exam for Finance discipline, I would love if you post them as comments below.

Hope above preparatory materials (Sample Papers & Books) for Power Grid Executive Trainee test help you to win that coveted job in Power Grid.
Best wishes!
