BSNL JAO Exam pattern Syllabus Sample papers  Books
BSNL has just issued recruitment notification for 1000 Junior Accounts Officer (JAO) positions, details of which can be found in my previous blog post titled: BSNL JAO Exam-2009: Notification, Eligibility & Forms. This blog post intends to provide you the study materials for BSNL JAO Exam – with Exam pattern, Syllabus, Sample papers & Books.

BSNL JAO Exam pattern:
BSNL JAO selection process consists of a 450 mark written exam, which has two papers, each of 3 hour duration. Section-wise marks distribution along with duration is given below:

As you can see from above, Paper-II for subject of your specialization (i.e. Financial Management /Cost Accounting /Tax & Commercial Laws) contains the lion’s share of the total marks: 300 out of total 450. Hence your effort should be to score maximum in this paper.

Although the written test would be held in February/March 2010 at a national level, once when you are selected, you would be posted in one of the 26 telecom circles (given in page-10 of the notification), based on the five options you selected while submitting the BSNL JAO application form.

BSNL JAO Exam Syllabus:
Following JAO Exam syllabus is reproduced from the page-11 of the notification.

Paper –I syllabus: General English & General Aptitude/Awareness:
a). General English: Comprehension of given passages and Grammar, usage and vocabulary.
b). General Aptitude/Awareness: Current events of national and international importance: Indian polity & economy; General Mental ability; Test of reasoning & Quantitative Technique.

Paper-II syllabus: Financial and Commercial Accounts:
I). Advanced Accounting:
1. Company Accounts introduction; shares & debentures etc.
2. Company Accounts; final Accounts
3. Cash and fund flow statements

II). Auditing
1. Nature, objective and basic principles of auditing
2. Techniques of auditing physical verification, examination of documents and vouching, direct confirmation, analytical review.
3. Planning and audit, audit programme, working papers, audit process
4. Valuation of internal controls.
5. Various types of Audit.

III). Financial Management – an over view:
1. Goals of Financial Management.
2. Key activities of Financial Management.
3. Relationship of Finance to Accounting and Audit
4. Organisation of Finance Function.

IV). Financial Statements:
1. Basic concepts underlying accounting.
2. Balance Sheet
3. Profit and Loss Accounts
4. Source and usage of final statements
5. Financial topics related to balances received and profit and loss accounts
6. Analysing financial performance
7. Financial ratios
8. Applications of financial analysis
9. Problems in financial statements and analysis
10. Break-even analysis and leverages.

V). Financial Management in Public Sector Enterprises:
2. Capital Budgeting
3. Long term financing
4. Working Capital Management
5. Memorandum of Understanding
6. Financial Management & Control

VI). Bare Acts:
1. Company’s Act 1956 (with amendments)
2. Contract Act.
3. Partnership Act
4. Payment of Gratuity Act.
5. Consumer Protection Act.
6. Industrial Dispute Act.
7. Sales Tax Act.
8. Payment of Bonus Act.

BSNL JAO Exam Sample Papers:
I had searched for the JAO Exam Sample Papers on the net, I could not find any sample paper exclusively for the JAO exam. Your preparation therefore must be based section-wise, finding the sample papers for specific topics.

Sample Papers for BSNL JAO Exam Paper-I:
Paper-I of the JAO exam consists of two topics: General English & General Aptitude/Awareness. You can find these SBI Bank PO exam sample papers useful for preparation of these topics, as it has similar sections and standard of questions is also expected to be same.

Sample Papers for BSNL JAO Exam Paper-II:
Paper-II of the JAO exam is your specialization subject specific: Financial Management /Cost Accounting /Tax & Commercial Laws. And bulk of your preparation should be based on the course materials you studied in your college days: CA/CS/ICWA/M.Com.

I am not very sure, but following two sources on net gives you sample papers which you may find useful:

It gives you five sample paper on Financial Management.

It gives some similar sample papers.

BSNL JAO Exam preparation book:
I could find only one book exclusive to BSNL JAO Exam: BSNL (JAO) Junior Accounts Officer Recruitment by GK publishers worth Rs. 360/=. You can use this book as your basic preparatory material.

BSNL JAO Exam-2009: Notification, Eligibility & Forms

BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.) has just issued recruitment notification for BSNL JAO Exam 2009 for 1000 Junior Accounts Officer (JAO) positions and this blog post tries to sum up the same, while a subsequent blog post gives you BSNL JAO Exam pattern, Syllabus, Sample papers & Books to help you prepare for the same.

Category-wise BSNL JAO vacancies of these 1000 positions are as below:
Open: 453, OBC: 253, SC: 195, ST: 99

Before going further, a small primer on what is BSNL:
BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) is a very prestigious public sector telecommunication company in India, having India's largest telecom market share of 24% and is the world's 7th largest Telecommunications Company. It has the status of Mini Ratna, a status assigned to best performing public sector companies in India. More about BSNL can be known from this About us page of BSNL website.

The world is getting smaller – thanks to the telecommunication companies like BSNL. And telecommunication industry in India is growing: at 110.01 million connections Indian Telecom Industry is the fifth largest and fastest growing in the world. It is all set to become the second largest telecom market globally by 2010. There is hence huge need of work force to meet these growing demands and the current recruitment notification for JAO is one of many such notifications (like for JTO, MT, DGM etc.) for meeting these employee requirement.

BSNL JAO Salary:
Minimum pay scale being offered by BSNL for these JAO position is Rs.20,500/- aprox excluding HRA, perks, medical benefits, LTC etc.

BSNL JAO Exam Eligibility:
Age Eligibility: Min: 20 yrs, Max: 30 yrs as on 01.01.2010 (1st January of the year of examination). Age relaxations exist as per Govt. rule for SC/ST/OBC candidates.

Educational Eligibility:
As on 31.12.2009, you need to be a Chartered Accountant (CA), Company Secretary (CS), Cost & Works Accountant (ICWA) or a Master of Commerce (M.Com) from a recognized Institution/University.

If you have the above eligibilities, you can apply for the BSNL JAO Exam 2009.

How to apply for BSNL JAO Exam 2009:
There is no application fee for SC/ST/PH candidates. But if you do not belong to these categories, you need to pay the examination fee of Rs 1000/- in the form of demand draft/Pay Order. The DD/Pay order should be made in favour of “Accounts Officer (Cash), O/o CGM, NTR, New Delhi” payable at “New Delhi”.

Fill the BSNL JAO exam application form after going through the content in the BSNL recruitment notification, especially section-“13: List of enclosures to be submitted” in page-5. Send the same to the following address in an envelope with “Application for the post of Junior Accounts Officers in BSNL” marked in bold letters on the top of the envelope:
DGM(Admn.), O/o CGM Mtce.,
BSNL, Northern Telecom Region,
Room No. 257, 2nd Floor, Kidwai Bhawan,
New Delhi -110 001.

Last date for receiving your completed BSNL JAO exam form along with the enclosures in above address is 15th December, 2009 (Tuesday).

BSNL JAO Selection process:
BSNL JAO Selection process consists of a written exam on all-India level, which has two papers – Paper-1 with two sections: General English (100 marks) & General Aptitude/Awareness (50 marks) and Paper-2 (Financial Management / Cost Accounting / Tax and Commercial Laws ) with 300 marks – each paper of 3 hour duration.

Although the written test would be held in February/March 2010 at a national level, once if you are selected, you would be posted in one of the 26 telecom circles, based on the five options you selected while submitting the BSNL JAO application form.
