DRDO SET 2009 Exam: Notification, Eligibility & Forms

 DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) conducts Scientist Entry Test (SET) every year in the first Sunday of September for recruitment of brightest engineering minds of India in DRDO. Like other years too, DRDO has just issued notification for SET 2009 exam for recruitment of 220 Scientist-B positions.
But before that, let us know what is DRDO.
What is DRDO
DRDO is one of the most respected Govt. organizations in India. It was formed in 1958 and at present has a network of 51 laboratories which are deeply engaged in developing defence technologies covering various disciplines, like aeronautics, armaments, electronic and computer sciences, human resource development, life sciences, materials, missiles, combat vehicles development and naval research and development. The organization includes more than 5,000 scientists and about 25,000 other scientific, technical and supporting personnel.

DRDO SET-2009 vacancies:
As per DRDO SET-2009 Notification, following are the branch-wise vacancies of 220 Scientist-B positions:
Salaries offered by DRDO:
Following your selection in DRDO SET exam, you have to undergo Post Induction Training (POINT) at Pune, after which you would be inducted as Scientist-‘B’ in the pay scale of Rs.15600-39100.

DRDO SET exam Eligibility:
Age Eligibility:
Maximum 28 years as on 5th June 2009.
Relaxations exist as per Govt. rule.
Academic Qualification Eligibility:
Minimum first class Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology in subjects given above (in DRDO SET-2009 vacancies) from a recognized University.
If a class/division is not awarded at B.E./B.Tech. or equivalent degree, you should have obtained a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate or 6.75 CGPA (on a Ten point Grading scale).
Final year students can also apply, provided their result is announced on or before 31st Aug 2009.
How to apply for DRDO SET-2009 Exam:
You have to first procure the SET-2009 application forms (which is Electronically Scannable) from the designated SBI branches from 5th May 2009 to 5th Jun 2009, after paying the DRDO SET exam/application fee of Rs. 300/= for General/OBC candidates & Rs. 100/= for SC/ST candidates. No exam/application fee is required for physically challenged (HH/OH) candidates.
In case of any difficulty for procuring the set-2009 forms from SBI branches, you can also procure the same through post from RAC, DRDO, Delhi. For details on which SBI branches SET-2009 forms are available and how to get the forms by post is given in a separate blog post titled: DRDO SET-2009 forms: from SBI & by Post.
After purchasing the SET-2009 application forms, fill the same carefully after going through the instructions given in Section “Instructions for filling-up SET 2009 Application Form” & “Item wise Instructions for filling the Application Form” from Page-4 to 12 in this DRDO SET-2009 Exam Information brochure. Also check the “Checklist” given in Page-18 of this information brochure.
The filled in application forms should be sent/submitted to the following address so as to reach on or before 5th Jun 2009:
Director, Recruitment & Assessment Centre,
Lucknow Road, Timarpur, Delhi – 110054.
Last date of receipt of applications is 15th June 2009 for candidates from Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep if applications is sent by Post.
DRDO SET-2009 Exam Important dates:
Issue of SET-2009 forms from SBI: 05 May 2009 to 05 June 2009.
Receipt of request for issue of Application Form by Post: 25.05.2009
Last date of submission of SET-2009 forms: 05 June 2009 (15th June for Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep)
Date of SET-2009 Exam: Sunday, 6th September 2009; (Time: 1000 – 1300 hrs).
DRDO SET Exam Notifications:
For future DRDO SET aspirants, you may be wanting to know when the next DRDO SET exam is held. I carried out a small analysis of exam date trends of last 3 years DRDO SET exam schedule and the findings are as below:
 As per above exam date trends, DRDO SET-2010 is scheduled to be held on 5th September,2010 , while the DRDO SET-2011 should be held on 4 September,2011. Also, the DRDO SET-2010/2011 notifications should come out in the first week of May. So keep checking this DRDO website from the last week of April for the SET Exam notification.

Under the computer science category there are multiple disciplines allowed like,
* Computer Science & Engineering, * Computer Science & Automation Engg,
* Computer Science & Information Tech,
* Computer Science & System Engg, * Computer Technology,
* Computer Technology & Informatics Engg
* Software Engineering
...
Same is the case with other subjects like Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Chemical Engineering.
I am sorry for the M.C.A ans M.sc guys, they arn't considered equivalent to B.E/B.Tech advertised for engineering subjects/disciplines.
I would suggest every one, please go through the brochure once. It has got lots of information including the above one.
