All you need to know about NAC-Tech Test of NASSCOM

NASSCOM, the apex-body of IT software and service industry in India, have started conducting the much awaited NAC-Tech test w.e.f. from 23rd January, 2008. This blog post is aimed to inform you about the NAC-Tech Exam and also to equip you find the study materials, so that you can score high in the NAC-Tech Exam.
What is NAC-Tech Exam?
NAC-Tech stands for “NASSCOM Assessment of Competence – Technical”. NAC-Tech test is a benchmark certification test much on the line of MCSE (conducted by Microsoft), CCNA (conducted by Cisco) etc. The scores you obtain in these tests helps someone (your would be employer, who else someone could be?) find how good you are relative to others on the subject matter of the test and therefore, help him form an opinion on how much you are suitable for the available job.
NAC-Tech test is for the technocrats – for those engineering students including the students of Biotechnology, who aspire to work in the IT and other Engineering Industries.
Why NAC-Tech Exam has been launched?
India is supposed to have the highest population of English speaking skilled manpower in the world. However, most of these skilled manpower needs to be further trained by the employer before his skills can be effectively used. Therefore this test has been launched so that an employer can find a ready made employee.
The objective of NAC-Tech test, as stated by NASSCOM is: to ensure the transformation of a "trainable" workforce into an "employable" workforce.
Why appear in the NAC-Tech Test?
If you are a final year or a pre-final year engineering student of following disciplines, than this test is strongly recommended:
Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Textile Engineering, Bio Technology and Telecommunication Engineering.
This national level test would help you find employment in the IT and other Engineering Industries across India. In the future days, most of Indian corporate are going to ask for the NAC-Tech test score when you submit your resume. Therefore you should appear in this test.
What is the exam pattern of NAC-Tech Test?
NAC-Tech Test is a two-part test:
Part A- Mandatory Test (Common to all candidates).
Part B- Optional Test (You need to opt the branch of engineering in which you want to be employed in)
The Mandatory Test (Part A) is conducted to judge your non-engineering skills, while Optional Test (Part B) judges your engineering skills, specific to your engineering discipline. All questions in both of the tests are Objective Type (multiple choice) questions.
The test pattern of NAC-Tech Test is summarized as below:
Part A- Mandatory Test (common to all):
It has six sections with a total of 111 questions to be answered in 2hr. 15 minutes, with break-up as below:
1. Verbal Ability Test: 25 questions in 20 minutes.
It tests your competency on Grammar and Comprehension.
Topics covered are: Synonyms, Articles, Prepositions, Reading Comprehension(Tech).
2. Analytical Ability: 25 questions in 30 minutes.
It tests your competency on Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning.
Topics covered are: Venn Diagram, Puzzles, Data Sufficiency, Conceptualization, Pattern Completion, Series Completion.
3. Attention to Detail: 20 questions in 20 minutes.
It tests your competency on Eye for Detail.
Topics covered are: Eye for Detail, Math Operator Replacement, Aptitude/Decision Making.
4. Programming Fundamentals: 30 questions in 40 minutes.
It tests your competency on Programming Ability.
Topics covered are: Algorithms,Flowcharts,SDLC.
5. Learning Ability Test: 10 questions in 20 minutes.
It tests your competency on Learning Ability.
6. Written English Test: 1 questions in 5 minutes.
It tests your competency on Written English.
Topics covered are: Grammar, Vocabulary, Content, Spelling and Punctuation.
The test pattern of the other part (Part B- Optional Test) of NAC-Tech Test is on the other hand is domain-specific (the branch of engineering in which you have specialized in and you want to get employment) and is much more elaborative.
