Pre-employment medical test

November 28, 2007

Some organisations conducts "Pre-employment medical test" just to be sure the employees whom they selects to join their organisation are medically fit. Examples include Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), TCS, ICICI bank etc. This is always conducted only for the candidates who are finally selected and is done through Company prescribed Medical Practitioners.

This post is being made just to give you an idea about what are these medical tests.. the type of test that you may have to actually go through may vary from organisation to organisation:

LABORATORY :
Blood Tests:
* CBC (Complete Blood Count) /ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate)
* Fasting Blood Glucose
* Cholesterol
* SGOT (Serum Glutamic-Oxaloacetic Transaminase)
* SGPT (Serum Glutamate Pyruvate Transaminase)
* Creatinine
* Blood Group

* Urine & Faeces Examination

CARDIAC :
* ECG

RADIOLOGY :
* Chest X-Ray

You need not be worried about too much of these tests, as it is very least likely that you would be rejected on medical grounds alone, untill and unless there are some serious medical issues.

Resume links for Jobs

November 22, 2007

What takes my prize for the best site on resume resources is Quint Career – It has most of the things that you would love to go through in this page:
http://www.quintcareers.com/resres.html

Quintessential Careers says that "it is the 3rd most popular career site on the Web, and the most popular career site for teens on the Web, according to Alexa.com. And Ranking.com rates QuintCareers.com as the 8th best employment site." I have not checked if its claim is correct, but I found the contents to be really helpful.

I particularly liked following articles:
Ten Easy Ways to Improve Your Resume:
Ten tips to help you tweak your resume into a nicer, cleaner, more readable resume, thus clearing the path to more potential job interviews.
FAKTSA: An Easy Acronym for Remembering Key Resume Enhancers:
Learn about Focus, Appearance, Keywords, Transferable Skills, Accomplishments in improving your resume.
Avoid These 10 Resume Mistakes:
A professional resume writer shows you how to avoid/fix the 10 most common resume mistakes that can hurt your job-search job success.
Tapping the Power of Keywords to Enhance Your Resume's Effectiveness.

The Scoop on Resume Length: How Many Pages Should Your Resume Be?
Deals with the one question all job-seekers face... how many pages are acceptable for your resume. The answer may surprise you.

Steve Burt, a Certified Professional Resume Writer, writes on "Basic Principles of a Good Resume" in this link, which I found to be a good reading.

Jobstreet.com offers some nice article on Resume as well as Cover Letter for resume. You can find it here.

Would you like some experts to prepare your resume?
Most of the job sites offers paid resume services, prominent among which I am including in the following list:

Naukri.com offers the services at following rates:
0-1 yrs. of experience: Rs. 650/=
1-8 yrs. of experience: Rs.1600/=
8+ yrs. of experience: Rs. 2000/=
Find more about it here.

Monsterindia.com offers the services at following rates:
0-3 yrs. of experience : Rs. 1599/=
4-7 yrs. of experience: Rs.2399/=
8+ yrs. of experience : Rs. 3199/=
Find more about it here.

Clickjobs.com offers the services at following rates:
0-3 yrs. of experience : Rs. 600/=
3-7 yrs. of experience : Rs. 975/=
7-15 yrs. of experience: Rs. 1125/=
15+ yrs. of experience : Rs. 1650/=
Find more about it here.

Timesjobs.com offers the services at following rates:
0-1 yrs. of experience : Rs. 599/=
1-3 yrs. of experience : Rs. 799/=
3-10 yrs. of experience: Rs. 1099/=
10+ yrs. of experience : Rs. 1899/=
Find more about it here.

I do not know of anyone using these resume services and therefore do not know what is the quality of resume prepared by these service providers. Therefore I would like to request you to use your own discretion to use the same.

Can you give me any feedback on how to include better resume-links here? Would love if you simply post your comments below by clicking on link Post a Comment.

Head Hunter Links

November 18, 2007

By "Head Hunter" what I mean here are the job-sites - there are a number of them and following names worth mentioning:

Naukri
MonsterIndia
ClickJobs
TimesJobs
JobStreet
JobsAhead

The Alexa.com graph at right gives you an indication about how popular are these websites relative to one another.

All of these sites gives you identical services:
i) They allows you to register and upload your resume for free. What you only need is a valid e-mail id.
ii) If the recruiters finds your resume matching with their job requirement, they contacts you in your e-mail.
There are ofcourse some minor variations among these sites, like ease of using the website and also how popular they are in the internet.

Now, where should you register and submit your resume among these six job-sites?
The answer is: It depends from which country you are from..

For example: If you are from India, your preferred site should be Naukri.com. Why?
Because I found through an Alexa.com analysis that it ranks as 15 most popular websites in India, while the rank of others are as follows:
MonsterIndia :25
TimesJobs: 44
ClickJobs: 119
JobStreet: 304
JobsAhead: 560.

The site popularity, along with percentage of visitors from India visiting Naukri.com, as can be seen from following percentage figures, says clearly that it is ahead of the other job-sites in India:

Naukri.com visitors:
India : 84.8%
China: 4.0%
United Arab Emirates: 1.4%
United States: 1.2%
Singapore: 0.9%

Monsterindia.com visitors:
India: 92.0%
United Arab Emirates: 1.2%
United States: 1.0%
Singapore: 0.8%
Qatar: 0.5%

Timesjobs.com visitors:
India: 90.6%
United Arab Emirates: 2.2%
Qatar: 1.4%
Kuwait: 0.9%
United States: 0.6%

Clickjobs.com visitors:
India: 96.8%
United Arab Emirates: 0.6%
Denmark: 0.4%
United States: 0.3%
Qatar: 0.2%

Jobstreet.com visitors:
Malaysia: 31.3%
Philippines: 25.9%
Singapore:19.1%
Indonesia: 9.1%
India: 5.4%

Jobsahead.com visitors:
India: 89.1%
United States: 1.8%
Singapore: 1.2%
United Arab Emirates: 1.2%
Kuwait: 0.7%.

On the other hand, if you are from US, Monster.com should be a preferred site, as percentage of visitors from US visiting Monster.com is the highest as the following figures would show:
United States: 73.3%
India: 4.0%
Puerto Rico: 3.5%
China: 2.6%
France:1.4%.

I am on the look-out for a comprehensive resource on another type of head hunters: Placement Agents. I just found one in following link:
http://www.vyoms.com/consultants/

Could you help me find other sources of Placement Agent contact details?

Written Test Links for Jobs

November 12, 2007

With the booming economy of India and resultant boom in job-market, many Indian websites have come up offering services from Resume-preparation to Interview- guides. Among them, many of the sites offer Placement Papers of the Recruitments conducted by the top most companies of India.

The intention of this post is to give you the links to these websites, which offers the Placement Papers, specially of the Written Test – both Aptitude Test & Technical Test. In most of these websites you would find however, that the presentation of the Questions is not that high – you need to use it with a pint of salt and should it only as an exposure to what type of questions are asked.

The first site which needs mention is FreshersWorld:
You can find the placement papers in following link:
http://www.freshersworld.com/placementweek/papers.asp

Another site, almost synonymous with above site is FreshersHome:
You can find the placement papers in following link:
http://www.freshershome.com/placement-papers/index.php

PlacementPapers is another good source : http://placementpapers.net/helpingroot/search/node/(PAPER)

GeekInterview has many good papers:
http://www.geekinterview.com/Global-Interview-Questions

123Eng
It has a rich collection of Placement Papers, some of which can be downloaded in pdf form.
http://www.123eng.com/placementpapers/

Vyoms has a very good interface.
It has the papers sorted by Companies, by cities as well as by Job-domains (such as C, C++, .Net etc.)
http://www.vyoms.com/placement-papers/

Sureshkumar.net is "vBulletin" forum website and has a rich collection of papers:
http://forums.sureshkumar.net/placement-papers/

Although TechPreparation is supposed for technical branches, it has many general papers too:
http://techpreparation.com/placement-papers.htm

Which is the best among all these sites? Do let me know by posting your comments.
I however would go for all the sites - if I do not find the papers needed by me in one site, I would search for it in another one!
